PIE Interface for Escape ?

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
Thanks, Mike, I appreciate the reply. No, the Nav system works fine, and it does give me the "option not available" screen when I move. The only thing that's different when the Ipod2car is plugged in is the mileage/energy button is dead.
So I guess my question is: Is there any way to just rig up a plain old, non-fancy, AUX-In cable that will replace the CD changer and plug into the Ipod's headphone jack? Like a cassette adapter, but one that ends not in a cassette, but rather in the the system itself? Its what I've had in all my other cars and it's been fine with me...
Thanks!

The previous PIE model will do that, but you have to keep a CD in the changer. Basically the PIE switchbox allows you to choose either the CD changer audio or your Aux input. But as far as the head unit knows you're still running the CD changer.

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
Update, looking at the wiring diagrams, the CAN/ACP gateway module (also referred to as the ACP module in the service manual) connects to the same cable as the CD changer. If your installer disconnected the CD cable off the back of your head unit to connect your iPod cable, they disconnected the ACP module as well.
This means you won't have inertial guidance if the GPS system loses its lock, so your navigation system is also degraded by this installation. The new "Apple PIE" adapter connects at the CD changer end of the cable, so the ACP module is still in the circuit, and in theory it should all just work. I have not tried it yet but others have and are reporting success.

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
Hi all,
I just got a 2005 Escape Hybrid yesterday with the Premium package including NAV and 6-disc changer under the passenger seat. Is it correct that there are two PIE options to interface an iPod?
1. X3-FRDW (no radio control of iPod, basic aux in and switch between changer and iPod)
2. FRDW/PC-POD (radio control of iPod but disconnects CD changer)
Please let me know if I'm missing something and/or if other companies make other options.
Thanks!

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
Thanks. Which one, if any, do you use? I'm leaning toward the X3 but I'm unsure if the fact that a CD has to be "playing" to trick the head unit will be annoying/bad or not. I like being able to scroll through artists/albums on my iPod instead of being limited to playlists with the PC-POD interface's radio control method.

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
Using the "PC-POD" or "Apple-PIE" as some call it. It's not perfect, but it does offer some control over the iPod so that even very large playlists are somewhat manageable. The battery charging and auto-pause function (switch to the radio or turn off the radio and the iPod pauses) are both useful.

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
Heyya, there's one that works with the SAT input. I posted the link in this thread.

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
I see it's been a while since someone posted to this thread. Forgive me if it is updated somewhere else.
I ordered the PIE X3 and T-Harness for my Escape with NAV and 6 disc under the passenger seat. I understand this will work but it is not as clean as I would like. It uses RCA to the earphone jack which I understand does not produce as good a sound as through the IPod connection. Also, I need to use a separate charger for the Ipod.
I see that Logjam has a newer version, Blitzsafe FORD/M-Link1 V.3 OEM that appears to connect to the 12 pin connector of the head unit or CD changer.
Anyone have any updates on what works for them? Specifically the NAV unit. I don't care if I can control the Ipod thru the Head unit. I want clear sound through the factory stereo and possibly Ipod charging. I also don't care if it replaces the CD changer since all my music is on the Ipod anyway.
I posted a question on the Logjam forum and their tech support does not think this unit will work.
If anyone has any info on what might work besides the PIE X3 let me know.
Thanks!

Re: PIE Interface for Escape ?
I found the PIE X3 and T-Harness on EBAY and figured I would take a chance. I was able to install it in about 15 minutes and it works just fine. The only problem is it would benefit from an amplifier. It's load enough but I have to turn up either the IPOD or radio pretty loud.
I've considered adding a TEN Technology FlexDock as a charger/stand/amplifier but haven't taken the plunge yet.
