Default Rear cargo carpet---worthless!

My biggest complaint about the FEH in 2 yrs of ownership is the rear carpet. It always required constant "retucking" at the tailgate end. When moving last month, I broke the tabs behing the rear seats, so now it is just sitting there.

Yesterday, I slid a large box in...the carpet bunched up like an accordian.

Does anyone have a fix? Will one of those rubber cargo mats fit directly on the rear battery (sans original carpet)? Can anyone recommend one?

Another possibility is to re attach the original carpet using lots of velcro strips on top of the battery. It's just aggrivating..

Any suggestions?

On another note....I filled up yesterday on my tip to NC for a wedding. First big interstate trip since BCM reflash (non-recall recall work). 31.5mph, cruise set at 70mph the entire way. WOW. About a 1-1.5mpg inc from where I normally am on this trip.

I solved this problem by stretching the carpet tight and then glueing it to the underside of the carpet mat. See the file attachment for photos.

I'm not sure how to attach the carpet to the rear seat tabs as I haven't looked too closely at this location.

There is a "Catch-All" carpeted cargo liner that fits BEAUTIFUL in the 04-07 models. Its expensive but I love it.

And Husky is another brand of mat (the one I have has 3 or 4 in. vertical lips to keep liquid and dirt from sliding off the mat) that works well... and there's no need to take out the original carpet -- just slap the liner mat on top of it. The first thing I bought for our FEH was a full set of Husky mats, and they long, long, LONG ago paid for themselves a hundred fold in protecting my floors and cargo area. I carry a lot of dirty stuff, and track a lot of dirt into my vehicles (hiking, mountain biking and camping, though I haven't done much of the three in a year or so since I've got a 6-month-old tadpole around now!)

I'll second the Huskey liner. It's really nice being able to take the dog for runs in the mud or fishing and not having to worry at all about throwing him in the back.

What is even better is that he is always dumping his water dish sooooo many times and it's saved me from spending a ton of time ringing out the carpet and possibly a well done dog. If only it could prevent that darn wet dog smell.

What model year is your hybrid?

Ford has a TSB for the '05 and '06 models, to replace the rear carpet with a new one.

Do you have a copy of the TSB? Could you post it? I have an '05 with carpet that is completely floating now. The former attachment was accidentally removed while helping someone move.

I got it here.

BTW, TSB's are not recalls nor are they secret warranty extensions. Given you have a '05, the TSB will only help you if you are still within your 36/36K warranty.

Yes, you are correct. Since I'm past 36k, I realize it would be my own dime. But, I like information! I'll probably ask them about it next time I'm at a dealer for service.
