"Recall" on 2005 - 2007 FEH and 2006 - 2007 MMH

No, but $8,000 after every 100,000 miles (at 30mpg) is better than $8,000 after every 40,000 miles (sans warranty at 45mpg)
I'm quite happy.
Let's just share all the facts before jumping to the conclusion that your HV battery problem is due to a bad design vs. excessive or "unintended" usage. (What remains to be seen is whether your problems are related to the recall or not! Ford contends it is a "false" indicator that may cause the engine to shut down, not a true battery issue)
You're right Gary, we all make choices. I wish you all the best in the long run.

I really don't see how the battery could be bad after its performance the day before. Generally, the performance slowly reduces in most batteries I've had in the past. This is why I don't think it was because I use EV more than most people. After all, there are no warnings about using regen (FS) to increase EV use.
The fact that I live and drive near the ocean and saltwater may have played a bigger roll in corrosion of this resister that the recall letter is talking about. There have been many days strong winds have blown off the ocean and left a salt film on my windshield, so it had to be pulled into the battery vent also. I've replaced my battery filter every 15K instead of the 20K recommended. Who knows, they may only have to replace the module or something and put me back on the road again.
As far as my driving techniques, I actually drive very smooth and coast in EV a lot. No hard take-offs and I coast to stops. In fact, most of the time I am very gentle in EV accelerating to avoid using battery SoC up so fast. I'm sure many of you drive your FEH much harder than I do. Where I may be hard on my FEH is turning corners faster than most people. If you look at my tires, you would not know it however because they look very good at 40K. As far as the fake shift in "L", regen is controlled by the computers and can prevent it if there is a problem. I drive as many roads I can without stoplights or stop signs, so I get better use of regen than most people. I quit using FAS awhile back, and now make better use of the warm-up procedure from the patent I discovered.
The bottom line is you think I must be doing something wrong to be getting the mileage I do. The fact is I don't do anything most people do by shifting to "L" than you do by putting on the brakes. Shifting to "N" and coasting longer puts less of a load on the drivetrain in EV than letting the engine idle and maintaining speed in "D". After the MPG Challenge, Debbie Katz commented that I coasted the entire time. Of course, I did run the engine a little to burn that 61.8mpg. You can see from the video how smooth I drive except for a few FS and fast corners.

I'm just a little stupified by your assertion that all of a sudden "Ford just got a real test of their design and a problem with the battery resister or harness they are claiming.", when more then likely (MHO) you may have exceeded the design limitations of the hardware.

PS-- There is no reason to believe the battery packs will only last 100,000 miles. I'm sure Ford would not have warrantied anything for 150,000 miles if they weren't reasonably sure they were going to make it. And there are several taxis in NYC well over 175k with no battery probs.

My FEH was bought new in El Lay, so the battery is warranted for 10yrs/150K. What are you talking about 40K miles for the battery? The warranty doesn't apply if you get 45MPG????

The batery pack is a lot more than just batteries. It can have a failure in the cooling or electronics and the batteries are still good. I expect when the time comes, someone out there will be rebuilding battery packs.

My recall work was done in three hours. I talked to the hybrid tech before the work and told him
to do a reflash. He said that was in the service notice from Ford and it would be done.
On drive back from dealer I did notice a smoother start of the ice.

What is the squeak fix you referred to? The reason I ask is I have had some recent issues with noise coming from the back of the car. One was a squeaking sound when I backed up. Usually only the first time after starting the car. This one went away on it's own (lasted a week or so).
Check out "Squeaking 06 FWD FEH rear end" for more info.

Similar thing happen to me this past Friday, as I was headed - guess where... to my recall appt at Ford -LOL! Had to be towed to dealer. I have the 2006 FEH w/about 27k miles. The "service soon" indicator came on - since I had just had the FEH serviced, I thought they forgot to reset. But then the car crawled to about 40 miles per hour and it wouldn't go passed that. Then it shuddered and the "service emission system" light came- and that was all she wrote.

Interesting - I made my appointment on Friday to have the recall work done tomorrow (Wednesday), and on Saturday afternoon, I also started getting the "Service Emission Sys" message. No change in handling so far, but I've called and had that added to my service order for tomorrow.
