Intersesting.

That site is run by a ford dealer, not ford motor vehichles. The Official Ford catalog is available at:

http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/...and_Hybrid.pdf

From Page 8:

"17 Electrochromic Mirrors and Electrochromic HomeLink® Mirrors
Ease the discomfort of headlight glare in your rearview mirror. Automatically
dims when glare is detected. Electrochromic Mirrors are available with built-in compass only or with the added feature of a temperature display. Electrochromic HomeLink Mirrors have a wireless control feature that allows you to activate home lighting, open garage doors, disarm security systems, and communicate with any radio-frequency-controlled home device from your vehicle. They are also available with compass only or with compass/temperature display. Dealer installation recommended. Not for use on vehicles with factory compass mirrors. Not available on Escape Hybrid. Base Part No. 17700"

I will call my dealer and see...

I think here is the confusion...

You cannot get one installed at / from the factory.

You CAN get one installed at your dealer after delivery.

Does that help?

Or you can install it yourself.

I bought the Gentek temp/compass/dimming etc mirror from a dealer on ebay for about 1/2 what Ford charges for it & it's the exact same product.

It is simple to install. I am pretty handy & I used to be a mechanic, but it took me less than 1/2 hour to install mine start to finish.

There is absolutely no reason whatever not to install one in a Hybrid, that is one of the first mods I did to mine(got to have that outside temp)& it works exactly the same as it would in a non-hybrid Escape.

Why does everyone need outside temp?

I suspect many people get used to it from an earlier vehicle. It doesn't seem like a luxury item to most people, and is in other "utility" class vehicles Ford makes, like the F-150 Supercrew.

It comes up a lot because it seems like such a simple, small thing not to include, but we all know simple, small things in large numbers cost $$.

Outside temperature is probably also handy for people in colder climates where knowing it's 30 degrees Farenheit vs. 32 degrees Farenheit would be useful... and we all know locally reported temperatures vary (for example, San Antonio's official temperatures and rainfall amounts are recorded by sensors at our airport.)

That said, I have the stock mirror and am happy with it. Knowing the temperature in Texas in the summer isn't always a good thing, anyway.

Exactly. Or at least for me. I got used to it on my '95 Ford Explorer. Plus, living in Michigan, I've seen 103 - -23 on the display, and more than 10 degree difference in one day. Occasionally in Spring, the day starts in the 50's and by midday is in the 70's.

It's also, one of those little things. "I wonder what the temperature is?" When the older vehicle you had would answer that question, you miss it when your new high tech vehicle can't.

That's it exactly, my last vehicle had it, my wife's car has it & so does my sons.

I couldn't really believe Ford didn't include it in the FEH as it's not exactly a cheap vehicle. I found myself looking for the readout constantly so I added the Gentek mirror within the first week I owned it.
