Interesting to note that both auctions got zero bids. Demand has to be pretty low.

The battery warranty should be transferable to subsequent owners, and even a used one (FEH) carries a battery warranty of 100,000 miles or 8 years.

I have not yet heard from anyone past 100,000 miles yet... but there must be some people getting close by now.... anyone???

So even buying it used, you should not have to worry about the battery for a while.

As a clarification on that.... the battery in the ORIGINAL vehicle is warrantied to 100,000 miles. If you are salvaging it and putting it in another vehicle.... I'd bet you'd have no warranty at all.

Tim, are you challenging a GH FEH Technologist? Anyway, good luck, looks like no one is in control.

I haven't read my warranty to be sure but most of the time thats the way it would be, I'm pretty darn sure. If you got a new one from Ford you'd be fine. If you buy the vehicle as a whole and drive it yourself you'd be fine. But having a used battery from salvage pulled out and put in another vehicle... the actual battery wouldn't be the worse for wear.... but I doubt the warranty would apply.

Even if you bought a new battery from ford or it was replaced by Ford, the warranty is only good for your FEH/MMH. In other words, no warranty on a junkyard battery, a replacement is only good for the remainder of the warranty, and you might get a year warranty if Ford sold you a new battery and installed it after the warranty. That's the way I understand it anyway.

So far, it looks like this battery will be good for a few hundred thousand miles under normal driving conditions. Having a spare battery in storage waiting for one to go bad, does not make any sense to me.

Yes... but how about having TWO batteries in parallel in the FEH at once?
This is what I would like to do.

Double the watt-hours.... double the EV miles, double the regen that could be captured... maybe a 5-10 MPG increase for city drivers!!! (20%) with only a 3% loss due to weight, so a net gain of 17% ???

If I could get an additional OEM battery (used) for under $1k I'd be game!

I wonder if the controller would be able to handle that. Part of its function is to determine the current battery charge at any time to know when to go into charge mode and stop charging and such. Normally you can't go by votage on NiMH... their voltage profile is essentially flat until they are discharged. So usually in such a system you have to actually integrate the current going in and out, couting coulombs.... So you'd probably have to reprogram the controller so it would know the extra capacity was available.

The last time I looked at http://www.hymotion.com at the FEH part, they were replacing the controller and battery to make a plug-in hybrid. Now they are preparing to sell a "set-in-the-back" module with a battery pack, and it says they don't replace anything stock (OEM battery, controller, etc. stays). It gives more EV time, and lets you charge up from the wall, but not available for public use yet. No good price either, only that they're hoping it will be less than $9500 per car.

That would buy me a lot of gas........
