Sorry John, just now found your email. We live 8 miles south of Alamogordo in Dog Canyon. You may already know the exit is sort of on a hill about equal to the elevation in town. Were 1.6 miles toward the mountains from the highway. The Highway is now smooth and divided 4-lanes which helps with my slow driving.
I have driven to Las Cruces many times to my various doctors. Finally my insurance with the company I retired from allows me to use doctors here in Alamogordo. I like Cruces with their many eating places and Sam's Club and similar places. We don't even have a Cafeteria to eat at or a Best Buy here in Alamo. Maybe someday.
I get my high gas mileage from the road to town and now the bypass east of town. It's slightly downhill from the north end of town. White Sands Blvd is nice and wide. That also allows me to drive at 38
mph using the cruise.
My wife and I both enjoy this rather dry climate other then the monsoon season. The dusty season of march and april are some years not so bad. Somehow it near cured my asthma I used to have in Dallas.
