Re: Can you safely tow with the Escape?

XPIRIT beat me to it, but didn't quite sum it up. I believe the rating is primarily because of the brakes. If you add brakes to the tow, I recall some folks towing up to 2.5K successfully. The...

Re: "Service Soon" and the "wrench"

There are other things that can cause the light. It might be the MCES pump, although that usually shuts down the car momentarily. Do you have a scan guage? You need to see if there are any trouble...

Re: Help a new FEH owner please

With your 2007, in general I would recommend using the brakes unless you need to slow down quickly, or to maintain speed downhill. I believe you will get a bit more regen in L, but running that way...

Re: Newbie Needs Help: FEH 2008, Engine

The 2008 FEH is not a normal Escape engine. Does their "LKQ" carry an Atikison cycle engine designed specifically for an FEH?

Stick to your guns and get the right engine.

Re: Battery drain! Also NAV dvd doesn't work!

OK, that is most likely the battery cooling down. A battery puts out charge based on the temperature - it is more efficient when warm. When you finish at night, the battery is warm because of the...

Re: Battery drain! Also NAV dvd doesn't work!

I didn't have the Nav, but zero on the power display means that the battery is at 40 or so. The car won't even work if it were actually at zero charge; it wouldn't even start. The HVB (High Voltage...

Re: Help a new FEH owner please

It is great, but a totally different car than the FEH. It has a very small amount of trunk space due to the large battery back there. But I can go 20-25 miles on electric only each day. With my...

Re: Battery drain! Also NAV dvd doesn't work!

Just curious how you know the main battery is "at 0"? The car is designed to run between 40 and 66% of SOC, and should not get that low. Do you have a scanguage?

The 12v is generally the culprit...

Re: Ford Escape Hybrid (2008)

The tires have a surprising amount of effect on MPG. That alone can cost up to 4 MPG. Oregon is a colder climate, which also lowers main battery efficiency.

I had a similar problem to this, and it...

Re: Help a new FEH owner please

I sold mine last year, it was a 2008 AWD FEH with 80K on it. I got about 27-29 in town and around 26-27 on the highway (but this was at 78 MPH or so). Actually, if you want the best highway MPG,...

Re: Bought a 2013 Cmax Hybrid (first impressions)

I'll have to remember to check this forum every now and then. It doesn't get much use.

You don't say which model you got. Is it the SEL? SE? Nor which warranty - is it ESP Premium care? Which...

Re: Unravelling Engine Braking - pre-'09 and post-'08

Hydrogen based? Do you mean running hydrogen? Or do you mean fuel cells, that need hydrogen and oxygen? Neither of these is powered with water...

Re: Unravelling Engine Braking - pre-'09 and post-'08

I used the engine braking when I needed to slow down more rapidly, rather than as a energy capture method. I found the feature useful for slower speeds downhill in the LA canyons, when the engine...

Re: Unravelling Engine Braking - pre-'09 and post-'08

Wow, long post. I can answer for my 2014 C-Max Energi. When the battery is full it activates the engine, running it without fuel to keep the speed down.

The C-Max also has a "downhill" button that...

Re: Ford Recalls 900K Escapes / Mariner 2008-2011

Replaced the steering column. It was done on the extended warranty after the vehicle steering failed three times during a left turn.

I swapped the FEH out for a C-Max Energi, BTW.

Re: Ford Recalls 900K Escapes / Mariner 2008-2011

Mine just flat out wouldn't turn as far. My turning radius increased by about 2 feet.

Re: 2013 C-Max Energi

Great idea, I'd have to check the CA laws about that though. The only thing I don't like about the car is the panoramic roof. I think here in So Cal it is going to get too hot. It will help in the...

Goodby to my FEH!

Well, I took the plunge and switched out my FEH for a 2014 C-Max Energi. I just wanted to say bye to the great folks on this forum, since I'll probably be switching over the the Energi forum, but...

Re: 2013 C-Max Energi

Thanks to all who posted on this. I now own a 2014 C-Max Energi in the Ice Storm color.

Gary,
That 1K price is too steep for me, plus I'd have to have an electrician run the 220 (240?) volts to...

Re: Adding a sub and amp?

This won't help with your 2006 model, but the 2008 and later models have an area in the right rear cargo area designed for the Audiophile sound system; I think it has the bass speaker. But in any...

Gary,

Re: 2013 C-Max Energi

I'm working on the deal now, I don't know if it will work out for my finances. Even with the rebates, that is one expensive car. Meanwhile, I don't have the funds to install 220v for a charger (my...

Re: 2013 C-Max Energi

NADA? I looked up KBB, which showed between 13500 at "fair" to 15500 for "excellent". I plan on asking for 15500 if they want to transfer the warranty, or 2K less if they don't want the warranty. I...

Re: "Stop Safely Now"

Just heard from my service advisor. It is the throttle body, covered under the transmission warranty, he said. Good call.

Re: 2013 C-Max Energi

Gary,
I've decided to sell my 2008 FEH and go with the Energi. We'll see how it goes. We have a large sedan for the family vacations anyway. Thanks for your help.
