Red face Re: 12V Battery Replacement

Just replaced my OEM 12v battery......failed to trip the relays just once the other day, but did on a second try. Drove straight to get a replacement. 78 months on that original motorcraft....dealer...

Red face Re: 2005/180,000 miles? should i chance it?

Documented taxi versions of the 2005 lasted almost twice as many miles as this one has on it (and those were mostly NOT highway).
Highly unlikely that the battery was replaced but if it was I would...

Red face Re: Winter tires

That has not been my experience, even with the Michelins.
These trucks were designed by the engineers to get by on slippery roads using the 4WD(AWD) option. I believe you are going to continue to be...

Red face Re: I want to modify the Escape Hybrid

This can be done to our trucks with a conversion to lithium-ion batteries and a plug in charging system...........but not with some COTS 'capacitors' or other parts you get at the hardware store. ...

Red face Re: "Stop Safely Now"

The 12V battery is no different than one in a non-hybrid...should be the same cost. Just have a store look up the recommended replacement for your make and model. I have 70k miles and almost 6 years...

Red face Re: Help!! No electric assist. Extreme heat??

This part of your experience matched the one I had this summer. My FEH sat in the sun for 6 hours on one of the hottest day of the year. Then, when I went to leave, it was very weak with no...

Red face Re: General Grabber HTS?

The Michelin Latitude Tours are sweet....especially if you use this truck like most folks.......as a car.

I think the Grabbers are H rated the Latitudes are T rated. Grabbers are probably popular...

Red face Re: MECS fail warning?

IIRC, there is no specific code for the MCES pump failure. Just a combination of diagnostic traits....overheating code, visible fluctuations in the coolant flow with the cap off, noises from the old...

Red face Re: Recommended Transmission Service & Transmission Filter ?'s

Here is the page from the electronic manual - issued early in 2006 (Feb) - for use on '05-'06 vehicles.
[I know the date because it has the electronic lockout if it senses the computer it is...

Red face Re: Recommended maintenance?

That was just more of the same sales pitch.....your first instinct was correct, its highly likely your vehicle does not need the services they quoted at your current mileage.

Red face Re: New smaller Ford SUV coming

Aisin manufactured the eCVT and Sanyo manufactured the HVBattery in your 2006....to a Ford design spec.
Sounds likely that battery manufacturing may now be feasible in the US....what with all the...

Red face Re: When should I change the oil on my 2006 MMH?

That's weird, the 2006 OM calls for oil change at 10,000 miles. (twice as long as I would wait) But the fact that the engine only runs a percentage of the miles, and if you use a full...

Red face Re: New Problem - Clunk and ABS lite flash just before stop

In my opinion, they did not make the tone ring thick enough.

If you can see in the photo (front passenger side) the ring just slips ( is pressed ) on to the hub. Lots of trade space for thickness...

Red face Re: Mileage in winter

also remember....the PCM software (especially on the early FEHs) is also trying to maintain a minimium Cat. temperature for effective emissions control and will keep the ICE running on that...

Red face Re: Mileage in winter

Here we go again. This comes up at the beginning of every winter. Remember, the FEH electric motors are contributing to the economy of the truck even if the ICE is on. The real comparison is between...

Red face Re: Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD just spins on snow and ice

Your 4WD/AWD is broken or turned off some how.
I can get my back wheels to engage on grassy hills in the Summer or even piles of leaves in the Fall. And I can tell when the rear wheels engage -...

Red face Re: Second Failure on my 09 FEH

Right, but what does the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) really need Outside Air Temperature (OAT) for?

It measures what it needs,......the temperature of the air entering the engine (IAT).

Red face Re: UPDATE: New Problem - Clunk and ABS lite flash just before stop

I had to have one tone ring replaced last month. If you have a 4WD model, the key is that both the brake and the "4WD disabled" warnings appear......along with the shutter as the truck employs ABS...

Red face Re: Second Failure on my 09 FEH

Right, no dedicated OAT sensor. I believe the first gen FEHs infer (predict rather than directly measure) a value for OAT from the measured IAT........for PCM purposes.

Some owners installed the...

Red face Re: Brake Failure

My earlier post was worded too strongly.....it's fair to say the brake pedal controls the hydraulics in failsafe mode. See attached.

Red face Re: Brake Failure

Willard, come on, you have got to be kidding. It is common knowledge that the FEH is brake-by-wire....there is no "direct connection to a master cylinder" from the brake pedal. The hydraulic brake...

Also note that the predicted relative wear of front...

Red face Re: Need new front brakes at 38,000 miles

Hate to say it.....but I have to agree with Willard on this one. I've overheard it first hand at various dealers and shops - selling new rotors is a popular money maker. If it ever happens again,...

Red face Re: Whine / groan coming from cargo area

Bill - Its clear you understand your system. But its also important to be very specific in this discussion.
'09s and later have shoe-in-drum style rear service brakes. An '09 and later owner could...
