Re: Aero Mod

I've kind of wanted to do something to the chin spoiler, but in order to be actually useful, it would have to be active. At least where I live and where I drive, it's not unusual to need some decent...

Re: Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD just spins on snow and ice

Hey Freak, did they find anything out? This is definitely a problem. My '05 kicks in the rear almost immediately, and I've personally experienced one of three things. Either I'm really stuck, and...

Re: FEH "High Motor Temperature"

Dealer is right. It happened to me at ~70,000. Cost about $600. Part was ~$280, and labor plus "diagnostics" was the rest.

If I had to do it again, I'd have ordered the part, and done it...

Re: Issue with my brakes

I don't have a scanguage, but can try to pull codes. My car hasn't complained to me though. No lights.

And thanks! I tried searching this forum for abs info, and found it very difficult to find...

Issue with my brakes

Well it appears like my brakes are going to need some work. Not the normal pads / rotors work. The ABS has been activating the last couple of days. No, I wasn't stopping hard, and no, the roads...

Re: tune-up question

My short answer is no, I don't have real world info on these. I tend to be skeptical, and am skeptical of these. But, I (very recently) bought some as an experiment, and am collecting data.

I...

Re: Brake Repairs / Costs

Mine had the coolant pump in the past couple of months. I'm at ~75,000 miles now. If I had to do it again I would just order the part and put it in myself. But, I paid the same ~$600 that eagle...

Re: "Stop Safely Now"

Speaking from very recent experience, before my coolant pump actually failed I got a few stop safely now messages. Additionally, without any codes I noticed the radiator fans running full bore after...

Re: What MPG people getting on 4WD FEH's?

My lifetime average is 29.0 as figured from my miles driven, and the amount of gas I've put in my vehicle. I've ranged from 37 in the summer in Denver down to ~20 in the winter in Boston with a 2...

Re: Extremely low mileage in below 16 degrees

That's not unheard of, but I'm surprised it happened over such a long drive. In Boston on my < 2 mile commute I would get 23 mpg during the winter. That's the lowest I've ever seen.

You might...

Re: FEH 09 Pics! you know you wan em!

Hey Gary,

Thanks for the info, and experience! Now my quest is to learn as much as possible about them and their non-dry pavement handling.

And congrats on your '09! The jealousy is firmly...

Re: FEH 09 Pics! you know you wan em!

Congrats!

Is there any way we could get more info on the tires? I'm nearing that time, and would like to get something other than the conti's.

I can tell they're michelin, but would like full...

Re: 1.5 MPG Gain on '08 MMH 4wd with Sunroof Cracked Open

There is one possibility that I can think of. If your fan is on, you are potentially pushing air out the top of the vehicle. This actually creates some lift, thus reducing rolling resistance. I'm...

Re: Pulstar Spark Plugs

While I may be skeptical, the effect would not be immediately reflected in EPA testing. Manufacturers aren't going to spend that much for spark plugs. At least not on all vehicles. Besides that,...

Re: Need Towing 101..

Good point, but to be precise, it's only electric power. The power can come from the battery and the generator. So the engine can help, but reverse is only driven electrically.

Re: Hybrid Diesels

They switched because of the price of fuel. Do that here and we would switch too. We would also stop demanding vehicles with so much power. And size.

So if you can figure out a way to change...

Re: Fog Light Breakage

I had one break too, but it's been fine since. I like the transparent film idea, and would probably try that if I felt a need. I've also found them to be effective in fairly dense fog, but I agree...

Re: Sorry, another "Should I buy the Hybrid" thread

Note that I have the Escape Hybrid, so no apples to apples here.

You might certainly beat the EPA for the highlander, but I got the impression that you were expecting something more dramatic. Of...

Re: Sorry, another "Should I buy the Hybrid" thread

I agree with Bob. Given the short distances you are describing, I doubt you will see much savings from the hybrid. For a time I lived in Boston and had a 2 mile commute. In the winter (when I...

Re: How to Blend Your Own Fuel, and Why You Should

The problem is not how much corn there is, it is how much land it takes. That land could be used for food crops, but is now used for fuel. As a result, the price of many products has gone up (corn,...

I have no first hand knowledge of either of these, but have heard good things about the Bridgestone Alenza and the Goodyear Silent Armor Triple Tread. I'll probably need new tires next fall. You...

Re: 2005 FEH mileage question

Hey eajsbks! One of my fellow Oct '04 owners! I also bought mine in Northern Cal (Stevens Creek, San Jose). Alas, I can't help you with the mileage, I only have 58,000, but my experience reflects...
