Jumping in here. I have issues with the MPG's the GL delivers over the regular 4 cylinder under our use; however, as a performance booster I can't complain. You get near 6 acceleration in my opinion...

Latest on the tires. Both front toes had been set way off so inclined inwards trashing the outsides. No idea if this contributes to our poor MPG's but the next few fillups may indicate one way or...

Acually that's not true. If you have ECO set to OFF it disables all the Hybrid functions, Try it, you'll see immediately. If it's set off this may be a contributor

Make sure your commute is suitable before you decide though. Check out the reported MPGs. A short start/stop will not be good. We're regularly under 20MPG under these circumstances. Expect high 20's...
