Higher octane fuel isn't necessary until detonation (knock, misfire, call it what you will) starts occuring. If you have a scanguage you *should* be able to find a field called knock counts or spark...

30 mpg on average here, the worst I've ever gotten has been around 26 and that was really taxing the car. A lot of it is in driving style, keep that ECO light lit up!!!
