Default 2007 Prius Extended Warranty

Hi all,
We have a 2007 Prius with 125k miles on it. I'm thinking of buying an extended warranty of additional 3 more years/36k miles more, which covers air conditioning, steering, brakes, cooling, fuel delivery, electrical, engine, transmission & hybrid components for $2,395. That basically covers only until 162k miles max, and i know these toyotas can handle 200k easily without problems. I'm just worried about the hybrid battery. Anyone here with experience/knowledge on this can help me out? Is it worth it? Thanks in advance!

Toyota batteries have an excellent track record.... The question you need to ask is how many Prius owners have ever replaced their traction battery and at what mileage. That should give you your answer.

Exactly! Thanks! From what i know, 161k miles' pretty low to be replacing these hybrid batteries, but i could be wrong. Anybody here already replaced theirs? At what mileage? And how much? Thanks again!

Let me see if I can put it another way..... If the ONLY thing you are worried about is the traction battery and from the silence on here, I don't believe there have been many failures at all, for the price of your warranty, you could replace the battery.

The other way to look at is one way you ARE going to lose $2,400, the other way you MIGHT lose about $2,400.....

If it were me, I would take the chance (and did with my Camry) but you need to look at everything and make the decision after going thru the numbers.

I think i'm leaning on cancelling the extended warranty and take the chance. If the traction battery ended up bad in my next 3 years/36k miles, i guess losing $4k (price of battery including installation?) is a risk i have to take. But if i get the extended warranty ($2400) now THEN battery failure happened AFTER the extended warranty coverage?!? Whoa!!! So i guess, it's a matter of WHEN i will lose my $4k (i will lose it anyway, as i'm planning to keep my Prius for 10 more years!). Thanks for your help @GeorgiaHybrid!
