I'm at 4499 miles, I believe, so my "oil change" maintenance light should come on the next time I go out. Due at 5000 miles. Do any of you have recommendations as far as what type of oil I should use for my Prius II? I've seen some thumbs up about synthetic, but is it really worth it?

I also plan to have them check my alignment after hearing about many such problems with new Prius.

Hi Jason:

___Since you aren’t a hyper miler, you don’t need synthetic for it higher mileage properties but if you want a bit better wear protection whether that is because its 95 in the shade and you need to drive to the store and back or you let your Prius sit all summer to drive the convertible, Mobil1 synthetic will be up the chore better then any std. oil you could possibly purchase. If I were not interested in hyper mileage, I would probably use std. 5W-20 myself as the cost for Mobil1 Tri-syn is a bit over the top in comparison to a std. oil. 200,000 miles from a standard oil is a gimme given the HQ nature of what you can purchase from your local Walmart today.
