2006 California Civic Hybrid - SULEV or ULEV?
New to the forum and in the process of purchasing a used 06 HCH w/ 87K miles. Trying to make sense of the warranty, specifically the IMA portion that covers of course the battery!
Some sources (http://automobiles.honda.com/news/pr...=2006031670437) claim a 10/150K on the IMA, e.g.
IMA Battery Warranty (Years/miles)= 8 /80,000,
AT-PZEV**(CA, NY, ME, VT, MA, CT): 10/150,000
**2006 Civic Hybrid and Accord Hybrid models distributed in California, New York, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut meet Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards.
I called the local dealership and they explained that if it had a SULEV sticker somewhere (under the hood) that it carried the 10/150K, otherwise it would be 8/80K.
The car appears to be a CA native as it's first carfax entry is at the DMV in CA w/ 4 miles. I haven't taken delivery yet so I don't know if it bares the SULEV sticker. Can I assume that it will fall under the 10/150K warranty?
I'm contemplating a 4/48K extended warranty that the dealer is trying to sell me for 1,500. But if the standard warranty covers the IMA system, then I think it'd be a waste of money.
Thanks.

Re: 2006 California Civic Hybrid - SULEV or ULEV?
Is there actually a mechanical difference in the HCH2's that carry this different designations? If so, is that mostly based on where they were sold/delivered?

There should be a sticker on one of the rear windows as well as one under the hood.
There is a mechanical difference between a ULEV and a SULEV, basically the SULEV has the cleaner emissions system. As far as I have been able to tell from reading various sources, in the Civic hybrid, SULEV is the same thing as AT-PZEV; it's just terminology relating to various changes in emissions standards and equipment.
Lots of info on google, or do a search here on the forum.

I'm pretty sure with the '06, you're talking about a vehicle with the cleaner emissions rating.
