Question Wheel lug/bolt pattern same on 06 HCH as 06 gas Civic?

If I wanted to, I could put Honda 16"s or HFP 17"s on an 06 HCH if I wanted to, right?

Do they have the same 5-lug bolts/hubs and bolt pattern/diameter? Honda didn't cheap out and put 4-lug hubs or anything crazy, right?

Haven't bought yet and it's not a deal-breaker, but was just wondering. The stock wheels have covers over the bolt pattern of course, so I can't be certain and the Honda "fact sheet" PDF has the wrong wheels pictured (from the EX), although the other Honda promo pix have the "correct" wheels.

(MPG considerations of wider tires have been taken under advisement. I am coming from a 12 mpg Audi wagon, so anything will be an improvement.)

Whether or not I get different wheels, I am pretty sure I will not be leaving the stock tires on, either getting Pilots in 15 or 16/17, depending...

Thanks in advance for your answers!

I would advise against it. It's a 6.5% or 13% increase in size, which I assume means the speedometer and mileage meter will be off by that amount. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If I'm right, you get 17" wheels, and you drive 74 mph, then it would tell you you're driving 65 mph. That would be bad.

They're the same size. Your speedometer will not be affected, and yes, they will fit. They've done a good job of keeping the same bolt pattern for all trim levels of individual models over the years. You will notice a slight decrease in fuel efficiency mainly due to the high grip nature of Pilots versus the LRR tires it ships with. The increased grip may be worth it to you however.

The wheel size is not the main issue, tire size is. If the tires that go with the 17s are lower profile than the total diameter may stay the same.

It looks like the stock size for the 2006 hybrid is 195/65-15

Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height
Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height
Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter

Example: 185/60R14 85H or 185/60HR14

185mm x .60=111mm
111mm x 2=222mm
222mm + 355.6mm(14")= 577.6mm or 22.74"

The first number is the width of the tire in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. To convert to inches, divide by 25.4 In the example above, the width is 185mm or 7.28".

The second number is the aspect ratio. This is a ratio of sidewall height to width. In the example above, the tire is 7.28" wide, multiply that by the aspect ratio to find the height of one sidewall. In this case, 185x0.60=111mm or 7.28"x0.60=4.36".

The last number is the diameter of the wheel in inches.

To figure the outside diameter of a tire, take the sidewall height and multiply by 2,(remember that the diameter is made up of 2 sidewalls, the one above the wheel, and the one below the wheel) and add the diameter of the wheel to get your answer

195*0.65*2/25.4 + 15= 24.98 inches total diameter for the stock setup.

205/55-16 and 225/45-17 are suggested optional sizes

doing the math again

205*0.55*2/25.4 + 16= 24.88 inches diameter for the 16" wheels (actually a hair smaller)

225*0.45*2/25.4 + 17= 24.97 inches diameter for the 17s (almost the same as stock)

Thanks everyone for the input.

I did notice (besides noticing that I wrote "If I wanted to..." in my original post twice. Oops.) that the +2 sizing was actually closer in rolling diameter than the +1 to the original rolling diameter.

Having replaced two wheels and three tires on a previous car (another Audi) with 45-ratio tires on 17" wheels due to crazy-bad L.A. road surfaces, I am somewhat leery of going down that... road again. Inevitable pun, sorry.

Looks like doing the HFP 17s from H & A and some kind of Pilot at 225/45-17 it would be right around $300 a wheel. Wouldn't mind finding some take-off 16"s from an EX. I like the entire wheel program for the 06 Civics except the Hybrid wheels. O' course.

Any HCH drivers/buyers-to-be looking at the upcoming HFP suspension kit? Solely to lower the ride height for better aerodynamics. O' course. the body kit is overkill, but the suspension parts sound tempting...

Worse case seems like it would be .1 of an inch difference. you could always pump more air in the tires to make them slightly taller to match stock exactly but that would be pretty nit pickey. Its not going to make a bit of difference as far as spedo or mpg reading is concerned.

Spedo is never 100% accurate anyway but as they say "its close enough for government work".
