Formula One to use Hybrid Cars by 2010
German car magazine Auto, Motor and Sports reports that Formula One Racing will use hybrid cars by 2010.
Apparently FIA boss Max Mosley came to an agreement with the car makers to go green by 2010.
It would be a great idea. I already hate that they can refuel during the race. A simple rule change to have them make race cars that go the full distance on one tank would also bring lots of innovation for fuel efficient engines.
By 2010 the Formula One cars will have engines with 675hp and an additional 80hp from an electric engine that is charged when the drivers brake during the race.

Re: Formula One to use Hybrid Cars by 2010
I see another side benefit- other than the actual gas savings from the races themselves, the home hobbyists who are absorbed in the races might start seeing hybrids in a new light- as powerful and exciting, rather than as some sort of compromise with good driving. I am really tremendously encouraged by this news. I wanted to read more, so I found this article: http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/09...oming-in-2010/ which has some links to speculation that this was going to happen, and more information about the planned technology.
