Default 500 Mile Tank

I have been trying for a while to make it to 500 miles on a tank. Almost made it today. I did 491.6 miles on 13.408 gallons. The MTE gauge showed 34 miles to empty. Had I been able to use all 15 gallons I could have gone almost 550 miles on a tank.

My lifetime average is still going up...... 33.6 with this tank.

What is the farthest anyone has gone between fill-ups? I need a new goal...

Good luck to all in the TX, LA areas. Stay safe.

Ray

Just curious why you didn't take it to the 500 mark.

Was it to buy gas before the price spikes up again?

My best so far was 438 miles on 13.2 gallons. My current tanks is working out to 465 miles if I add the the trip meter to the "Miles to Empty" display after about 2/3 of a tank. I too have been looking for the 500 mile tank. I'd need almost 35mpg to get there and I'm just not quite at that point due to the 90 miles of highway I drive every day. If I could stay off the highways, I know I could do it.

If that were the case I would have filled up yesterday for $2.67 instead of today at $2.81.

I live about 20 miles from downtown Boston and where I live gas is about $0.25 cheaper a gallon than in Boston. Since I don't like to push my luck too much and I have to go into work tonight I figured I better fill up before heading in. I always fill up at the same station because they are high-volume and have pretty new tanks.

Believe it or not I actually thought of driving one more exit up the highway and back to my exit which would have put me at about 502 miles but wasting gas is dumb, even at 37 miles per gallon.

When I first got this car (the '05 actually) I was pumped the first time I made it over 400 miles per tank, then 450, now that 500 is easily accomplished I am shooting for a 525 tank......I know, I need to get a hobby.........

I Believe it.

Some of the routes I have been taking have certainly improved my MPG, but I could not say with confidence they save gas. I will find out .. as soon as I reach hypermiler status.

I went 600 last summer from Colorado to Kansas City with a 43 MPG overall for the tank and that was with several hundred pounds of camping gear cargo. When I filled up I still had almost two gallons left in the tank. Recently GPSman went 660 on a tank completely to dry all in town and broke my record. I believe under the right conditions a 700 mile tank is possible.

Well, I've had my Miles to Empty and miles driven (trip odo.) add up to 520, but that's the best I've gotten. I don't like to drive the tank down for some reason, I guess that MTE display makes me paranoid, I always make sure I have enough fuel for my commute and fill up early; I've never gotten below 19 MTE on the display.

I've also had to do some strategic filling, like in anticipation for a lot of weekend driving, or before Katrina hit and drove gas prices up as well.

I'm close ... I think.

My Miles To Empty display had 480 on the last fillup.

I don't keep a log but take a pin and write on my gas receipt to figure MPG. I found one in april when I avoided the A/C. It appears to be one of my best which was 535.2 miles, 13.1 gallons = 40.857MPG.

Had my best tank going this week with A/C on normal recircle. My wife took my 14 yr old son to a Blockbuster and sat in the FEH for about 10 minute with the A/C on max. I got up this morning and we went to eat and then on to wash the car when I noticed the FEH was not going into EV mode. I found the A/C on max. On my best tank with this new "L" gear trick. It's still lookin good overall, but I think most of you know how I felt. This is the first time I got to 44 miles before the guage broke past the full mark. This is about 9 miles past by best tank.

Sdctcher, I thought you were the one to beat. I agree about the 700 mile tank now that we can add this "L" thing to my habits. I only use it to slow down when the battery isn't full which is most of time.

Can never even come close, in Oregon we have no self-serve so it's very hard to get a full tank of gas around here. However at present our gas is about 10c cheaper than WA which kinda puts the lie to self serve saving money...
