How do you change the PTU(transfer case) on awd escape hybrid?
I am pretty sure I have to replace my transfer case otherwise known as the ptu. I am looking for people that have done it before that can explain how they did it.
Thank you,
Tyler

Since there's been no response from those who have done this, I'll say that the procedure is well documented in the factory service manual. If you're interested in repairing your FEH to this extent, you should have a copy anyway.
Escapecity website has posts from people who have had to do this repair, but I can't remember if any of them did it themselves. Good luck with it.

There isn't a service manual readily available for the Escape Hybrid that covers the ptu that I am aware of. I also just need basic information. Myself and the guy that works with me on vehicles are relatively competent. Just need to know if there are any major hangups that are different on this escape verses the conventional.

I was ready to say: "I'd be willing to bet an awful lot of money that the Hybrid's PTU is internally identical to the non-hybrid. There may be a different mounting if it's attached to the eCVT, but that should be it.". And then I actually looked up the procedures. Most of them describe in-vehicle part replacement. It looks like the only differences are external mounting details. I saw no differences in the sections describing component replacement.

Re: How do you change the PTU(transfer case) on awd escape hybrid?
I bought a used one (from auction) that sounded like it was dragging a grocery cart underneath and found out it was my transfer case. They said it ran dry and I read somewhere that it is not uncommon for a plug (?) to come off that holds in the fluid thus causing failure. They quoted me 4K for new but I bought their $600 salvage yard special and had it installed. It drove much quieter then but sorry do not know the procedure.
