Unhappy New Tires, again =(

Ugh, went to have my tires rotated before upcoming trips. They were already at 3/32 front & 4/32 rear.

Purchased the FEH new May 2007, Aug 2011 @ 47k replaced the stock Continentals (what were they, 50-60k rated???)
Today Replaced the General Grabber HTS (LRR)s at only 81119, 34k miles and these were 60k rated tires.

Discount tire did refund me $47/ea, but then charged $23/ea for the road hazard/refund whatever certificates again.

This time I got Michelin LTX's (70k, we'll see), I've heard good things about those.

I just run normal PSI, Normal city/highway driving, is this a normal wear?
This is my 2nd longest owned vehicle. My 2000 Expedition is still wearing her tires from Sep 2007! (granted there's only 20-30k on them so far, will need to replace for rot before mileage!)

I'm still on the original Continentals at 70k miles and haven't reached the wear indicators yet. I'm puzzled by why yours didn't last longer. I rotate every 5k miles in an X pattern.

Maybe our extremes? 100+ days of 100F+, winters can get to single digits (luckily this winter has been great, in fact was 80 last Sat, then ice on monday! =)

I forgot to mention the wear was even, so not like its out of alignment.

Do you rotate your tires, and is the wear pattern even? Do you know if the alignment is ok? The pull/drift system on the electric steering can mask alignment problems, but alignment problems would cause uneven tire wear.

I rotate; not as frequent as I should. But it was even wear across the tires, fronts were 3/32 & rears were 4/32, and was fixin' to put them upfront.

Guess maybe the wifey drags when I"m not around? Road condition? My back/side roads I spend 90% of the time on are full of ruts, cracked up, dips, not so much actual pot 'holes' as the blacktop is still there, just not highway smooth.

I was going to ask how to check the 'wheel bearing' or FWD equivalent; but that noise seems to have gone away with the new tires; so I guess it was road noise.

I just replaced my original Continentals with their new equivalents at 116,800 miles.

Yes, I am the original owner, and all four still had decent tread, but the sides were showing cracks.

Something's not right if your other vehicles drive the same roads and get noticeably better tire life. Do you get 29-32 MPG or better? If not, I'd suspect tire pressure and load weight as well as harsh driving style. If you do get that range of MPG I'd have to suspect alignment of some sort, but I know little about that on these vehicles.

I ran my OEM Conti's about 70-80k (can't remember), and am on my 2nd set of Grabbers since, and have 220K on it now. I drive pretty good roads though and mostly have pretty mild weather.

Incidentally, if we parked next to each other I'd hafta check out the bumperstickers to tell 'em apart!
