I have had a weird issue with my 2005 4wd Escape hybrid when it starts up. Occasionally when I put the key in and turn it to start, the vehicle behaves like the 12v battery is dead, the dash lights are dim and the system makes noises like the battery is dead (IE; the brake pressurization system runs slowly) . If I leave the key on, after a few seconds, the lights brighten up and the vehicle starts normally. This doesn't happen every morning and sometimes it'll happen in the middle of the day. Anyone else ever have this happen to them? Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Travelover's 03-20-2015, 04:38 AM posting in the thread "Battery and charging questions" (https://www.greenhybrid.com/forums/f...80/#post255972) provides an explanation of your situation:

If the battery is low, but not dead, one can turn the key to the on position and the 330 volt battery will charge the 12 volt battery. If the 12 volt battery is too discharged, however, you need to do a standard jump start.
