Default TCH knock sensor location

To GH or anyone with a detailed shop manual.

Does anyone know the exact location of the "knock sensors" on the TCH engine?

Any help appreciated.

Man, I googled that to death and could not find it! Thanks for posting. I figured it was behind the intake or exhaust manifold. Just did not know where. So there is only one? Weird...

Now I can get up in there and see how much clearance I have.

Actually looks very tedious to remove one sensor.

I don't want to remove it (yet). I want to do the mallet on the side of the block test with the engine idling.

I want to get as close as possible to it to see how the engine reacts.

My pinging problem recently came back with a vengeance. I had to switch to 93 octane.

I have a friend with a borescope. I plan to do that here in a few days to see how the combustion chambers and valves look.

Thanks again for the info.... Invaluable!

Yeah, that, or reflash ECM. You know that ignition is ECM controlled.

Btw, Chilton for same year regular Camry says:

Install sensor in parallel line to the engine block, no more than a 10 degree angle to the block.

Not even sure what this means. I think, you may want to buy regular Camry Chilton. A lot on engine, brakes, suspension, body, interior is identical.

Also, says that if sensor bolt is overtightened, sensor will not work properly. Only 15 lb/f torque.

Sorry about no answer from me guys, still out of town on business until the end of next week....Ukrkoz, try that sensor on a Nissan V6, you have to disassemble the entire top half of the engine to get to the two sensors that engine has.

Now that and some other things you said are very interesting! There are quite a few people having this issue. Makes you wonder if the thing was improperly installed and or possibly over torqued at the factory!

Thanks again.
