Default Bad EGR in HCHII? Transmission problems?

Hey,

I see a lot of chatter about the EGR valve messing up the transmission for the HCH I (first generation) with CVT--has anyone had this problem with the new generation one?

I didn't buy the extended warranty, but I'm wondering if I should try to do that now if others are having trouble with the transmission. Mine's good so far, at 20,000 miles of mostly freeway driving. I do notice however that the transmission doesn't do well starting on San Francisco hills unless I apply a small amount of gas and let the transmission gradually rev up--it seems like it always starts as if it is on flats in an ideal hybrid city. Sometimes I use 2nd gear, but that's a bit too low much of the time.

The EGR doesn't mess up the transmission, its just that when it is going it is often mistaken for a transmision problem.
