Default Broken Engine Mounts on HCH II (2006)

Hello. I took my 2006 HCH to the local Honda Dealer for the electric power steering service bulletin. They got the bad code and will replace that unit under warranty. I also told them about a single click/thump that I hear at slow speeds (under 25mph) from the engine when first pressing the gas. They diagnosed it as three (3) broken engine mounts including the torque rod, transmission mount and engine side mount being collapsed. They are still pricing these out but I anticipate they would be very expensive. Is this repair worth it? This is an aging car with 140K miles but still runs smoothly otherwise. Any other advice on the actual cost of the repair and whether an independent shop could do it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Looks like you could get the parts for less than $500:

Items 4, 5 and 7 I believe. You might need other parts.

If you intend to keep the car, absolutely. I have 132K mi on my '06, and I would replace them if they were worn, but I would do it myself. It might be worth having an independent shop confirm the diagnosis as well.

Thanks Keith. Any idea of the amount of labor required to replace these three parts? I would rather have a competent independent shop do it before the dealership which always finds something wrong with the car for a $750+ repair.

Personally, it would probably take me 4-6 hours because I'm figuring it out on the fly including an hour or two of online research. I don't have a feel for what labor rates are. I haven't been to a dealer or other shop for at least 10 years that wasn't related to a recall.

Do you have a smart phone? There is an app called RepairPal that estimates repairs. You enter your make/model/year and motor mounts and it will give you an estimate, and find local repair shops that will do it.

I believe the app is free

There's also an equivalent website, http://repairpal.com, but I don't see where it permits engine mounts as a quotable item. Interesting nonetheless. I'll have to check it out.

Yeah looks like Repairpal only has the most common items. But I did find a discussion on Repairpal about Civic motor mounts. Looks like a guy with a 2007 Civic Coupe paid (or was quoted) $800 for motor mounts.

LOL... as I've researched this issue, I believe my car is starting to show the initial signs, so I'll probably be doing this within the next six months before the heat hits again in May, 2015. I also found this breakdown of how to do it on an 06 standard civic. It's probably not 100% accurate, but it seems to give a good idea of complexity (4-6 hours is probably the case). I'm still uncertain how many times the car needs to go up and down on the hoist!

Welcome to the club Steve, seems like a common issue. Two questions - do you recommend EZ Honda Parts to order the genuine parts online? There are a ton of sites, I just want genuine and inexpensive parts if those two requests are compatible. Second - do you recommend ordering the entire set of parts on the site? Seems like better safe than sorry once you start the repair and need bolts/stay/brackets that also may need replacing. Looks like all 19 items are $506 plus $43 shipping.

One more helpful bulletin (side mount only) I found online with instructions, also for the regular 2006 civic as opposed to the hybrid.
