Its been a while since I've logged in as well.

I'm in eastern Ontario and I have driven my car through 3.5 winters.

My total average fuel economy over the last 95,461 km's = 4.848L/100 km (48.52 miles per US gallon).

I data-base all my fuel tank re-fills that are worse than 5.0L/100 km (47.04 miles per US gallon) as 'winter statistics'.

Winter 2008 average = 5.46L/100 km (43.08 miles per US gallon)
Winter 2009 average = 5.35L/100 km (43.97 miles per US gallon)
Winter 2010 average = 5.09L/100 km (46.21 miles per US gallon)
So far, winter 2011 average = 5.42L/100 km (43.40 miles per US gallon)

Total 'winter statistics' 29,027 km's = 5.31L/100 km (44.30 miles per US gallon).

Bottom line, in my situation, my winter fuel economy hit is about 9% worse than the overall average.

Mike, it's nice that you have all that data at hand. Rather than compare your winter data to the overall data, it seem you would want to compare winter data to summer data. Thanks for your good input and welcome back. Nice results, by the way!

Excellent suggestion. And I have just completed my 'Spring, Summer and Fall 20xx' statistics.

Spring, Summer and Fall 2007 average = 4.70L/100 km (50.05 miles per US gallon)
Spring, Summer and Fall 2008 average = 4.65L/100 km (50.58 miles per US gallon)
Spring, Summer and Fall 2009 average = 4.61L/100 km (51.02 miles per US gallon)
Spring, Summer and Fall 2010 average = 4.63L/100 km (50.80 miles per US gallon)

...and total 'Spring, Summer and Fall statistics' 66,433.8 km's = 4.65L/100 km (50.58 miles per US gallon).

Compared to total 'winter statistics' 29,027 km's = 5.31L/100 km (44.30 miles per US gallon) the winter hit is about 13% on fuel economy.

 

Regarding all of your sleuthing, nice work! (And quick, too.)

I use the "Road Trip" app for my tank stats. Easier on the family.
