IMA Battery Warranty Replacement

Re: IMA Battery Warranty Replacement
Hybrid civic 2008 owner. I had all updates done to my software during regular maintenance, a total of three updates. Come to find out the updates keep the batterry from going bad during warranty. Honda has extended the battery warranty to 120,000 miles. Software upgrades were for their benefit not yours.

Re: IMA Battery Warranty Replacement
I have a 2007 HCH with only 42K miles on it, and IMA light and sluggishness seem to indicate it's time to replace the battery.
Dealer says to come in, for $120 or something like that they'll check it, and if it's on Honda extended warranty, or I buy a replacement from them, the money applies to the cost.
If there's no chance of Honda covering it, I'd rather buy from local outfit, Bumblebee, that seems to have a better battery.
Anyone know if I'd be eligible for the free replacement?
Thanks in advance, folks!

Re: IMA Battery Warranty Replacement
Your car is upside down!
Yes. IMA light means your battery has deteriorated substantially. Do not disconnect your 12V as that will reset the codes. Drive it to the dealer and tell them you need your battery replaced under warranty.
There are other things that can trip the IMA light, but the vast majority of causes are bad battery pack.

Actually, my car is not upside down, last I looked. I was doing yoga in the front seat, and shot this while standing on my head. Or not.

Re: IMA Battery Warranty Replacement
I'm putting a topping charge on my most recent refurbed pack. Hopefully, I'll only have my "new" pack a few days before you get yours.

Re: IMA Battery Warranty Replacement
To get a bit of a tangent going here, Steve, I will ask...
sounds like you're using a grid charger like...
http://hybridautomotive.com/gc/charger.html
Am I right? I've done some searching on greenhybrid to read up on this. Seems a tad expensive, but $420 may be reasonable if it extends the life of the battery enough.

Re: IMA Battery Warranty Replacement
I built my own for less than $100, and I've refined it down to even less. The Hybrid Automotive is far superior to mine. IMHO, it's over-priced, but it's the best turnkey solution available.
If you go that route, make sure you get the discharge ready option. He's working on a means of deep discharging the whole pack in an automated fashion to improve capacity.
Mine is cobbled together and looks like frankencharger compared to that clean design. I don't have a harness. I do all of my grid charging outside the vehicle since I have spare packs. One day, I'll get something going on a makeshift harness to allow it to be done in-car.
