Default High RPM & Vibrations while driving

Hi All,

I own a 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid with about 86,000 miles. What I am about to describe only happens once in a while, maybe once every 3 days and it occurs more on highway.

When I am driving about 40-60 MPH. The engine starts to shake and the RMP goes to about 3500-4000. It seems as though it is trying to get into a gear or something. I keep driving and it cannot not push past mid 60's MPH and then after awhile, it seems to kick into gear and then everything is fine and I can travel at higher MPH and the RPM is back down to 2500. During this time, I also notice that the Assist Light does not go on so does this mean that the battery is not helping the engine?

I took it to a Honda Dealership and they cannot find out what is wrong.

Please help if you can.

Thank you,

John
