08 Mariner Hybrid poor gas mileage
We just took delivery of a used '08 Mariner Hybrid w/ 34k miles.
After the first couple of weeks we have only been achieving about 24.5 mpg in non-Interstate driving. We live in SC so it is rather warm and cold batteries are not a factor.
We have not checked with the dealer and I figured I would solicit feedback from other owners first.
Is there anything that needs to be observed as far as driving style is concerned given that my wife had been driving a V8 SUV for the past few years?
Tires have also been replaced by the previous owner and she is currently running on Continental Contitrac. What is the original equipment tire?

Re: 08 Mariner Hybrid poor gas mileage
The orginal tires were Contential EcoPlus low rolling resistance tires. Your existing tires are not low rolling resistance.
Do you have a scanguage II or similar piece of hardware to read various hybrid/vehicle operations? You mileage might be lower than expected because of vehicle problems/issues you are not aware of. Are you able to go into electric (non-internal combustion engine) drive after the first 30-45 minutes of continuous driving? If not, it might be because your MECS pump and/or blend door to the hybrid battery compartment are faulty. These are two issues with this vehicle and a search on this site will provide more detailed information. It might be possible that the dealership (was it Ford?) is clueless about the situation since you do not mention any codes being thrown.
Without additonal feedback and information from your vehicle it will be difficult to state what the problem(s) are.

Re: 08 Mariner Hybrid poor gas mileage
I have 2008 MMH FWD and my mileage is hovering around 21-22, but it got 30-31 in the fall. Now its cold and the hybrid system acts like an entirely different vehicle. after a cold night, by hybrid batt is completely discharged. The engine runs all the time, the battery barely takes a charge and never gets used from stops. I have to drive for 30 minutes or more before my battery heats up and my nice hybrid car comes back to me.
Any ideas how to heat up my battery quickly?

The short answer? There aren't many options.
