Like title says, this is good news from the 6.2L V8 ecotec engine.

10k oil life, 17k engine miles.

 

Although oil analysis can be helpful comparing early values to what they should be, all engines/transmissions/rear ends/etc. are different(even for the same models). The most accurate way to use Oil analysis is to establish a baseline from the beginning, regular sampling, and graphing those results, watching for spikes. It's amazing how the oil labs will even suggest what parts may be failing just by what metals/substances are rising in the samples.
I used oil analysis for a fleet of dump trucks I used to own and it was uncanny how they would say "Check the Turbo Bearing", and sure enough the turbo was ready to explode from excessive wear. Or they would say "Check Main Bearings" and yep, they were toast. It's nice to catch these things before the engine self destructs.

 

That's is true that's why I'm sending another one again after only 7k miles? Although it is an early oil change vs the previous which had 9% oil life left while the latest had 19% oil life left. I try to collect samples and if everything is good just keep on driving it using suggested intervals. I use the extended performance which is safe up to 15k miles. Though these 0w/20 oils are too thin to provide adequate protection even in. EP form. I'm comfortable with maybe a 0w/30 instead?

 

Just had an early oil change at 19%. Almost the same reading. It shows how much protection Mobil 1 EP provides. I can't imagine how much wear my 195k mile hybrid had. I usually change the oil at 30%! The new owners must be lucky!

This is my latest sample. I guess the gasoline content in the oil must be from my prolonged idling? The Mobil 1 0w/20 EP is perfectly matched to the ESCALADE's 6.2 L V8. The sample was also drawn 2500 miles past the 0% oil life. Remember the oil change interval is adjusted on a synthetic blend oil.

 

@evois- did the dealer perform the sampling for you? I just recently purchased a 2010 Yukon Hybrid and now have 114,100K miles on it. Would it be beneficial for me to have oil sampling done? Also, what type of oil do you recommend I use?

You can do an initial oil sampling and it will reliably tell you what metals are wearing, if you have coolant in your oil or fuel mixture in your oil. The dealer collected the sample for free but I gave them the oil container from black stone labs. For the hybrid with its AFM, full synthetic 5w/30 is standard. I had my 2009 escalade hybrid and it still drove like new at 195k miles.

I highly recommend Blackstone Labs, I have used them for many years. Oil analysis is cheap insurance against catastrophic failure, they usually can warn you before something really bad happens.
