Default Don't buy that flat screen: It causes global warming

Hi.
What is the latest example of items said to cause global warming?

Well don't buy that nice beautiful flat screen TV or computer monitor because it is a "Climate time bomb", according to scientists. After all, if it's According to scientists- it must be true.

In fact it's worse than the largest coal fired power plant:

There is no end to the madness.

That particular article doesn't really clarify what types of TVs are at issue. It is LCD TVs and other LCD devices.

Cause global warming? I think that is different than the scientists describing its potential greenhouse impact.

Did a scientist say it was a "climate time bomb"? I see that in the title, but I do not see it in the article. Do you have something against scientists?

They were just trying to quantify the impact. Obviously, there are many many coal fired power plants, so the NF3's impact is relatively small. Anyway, do you think it is better to be proactive or reactive?

Fox News. That is a problem right from the get-go.

The article is all innuendo and cynicism, saying that just because nitrogen trifluoride is used in manufacturing then it must also be escaping. At no point did they attempt to establish that it does escape into the atmosphere.

It might be fun to blame it on Fox News, but that article was all over the place.

Here's another viewpoint:

That is good if that is true about how much NF3 is released during the manufacturing process. However, what happens at the end of the life of these LCD panels?

It is used during manufacturing; It is not stored inside the LCD cabinets for consumers to find.

Thanks. I should have googled it myself. I like this from the wiki:
It is not currently known how much is ultimately released into the atmosphere; estimates are either less or more than 2%...
Also, from the original article posted here:
Air Products, which produces the gas for the electronics industry, told New Scientist that very little nitrogen trifluoride is released into the atmosphere.
But Prather raised concerns about companies being careless with the gas, given the lack of a regulatory framework.
