That's neat. Perhaps the software that shuts off the ICE looks at whether the A/C compressor is actually running, not whether it has been "asked to run" by one setting or another. If the defrost switch is on, the compressor is asked to run, but will not run if the temp is too low. If the software monitors whether the compressor is actually running, that makes it very reliable. This is a good technique for building reliable systems.

But of course I'm guessing. Don't you wish we could read the source code?

What we do know is that when the A/C switch is in the normal recir setting, the software will shut the ICE down along with the compressor. This does not mean the compressor clutch has been disconnected before the engine shuts down, just that the A/C compressor clutch has quit turnning with the engine. However, it does not make sense the engine would restart with the A/C clutch engaged. Bottom line, the PCM is remarkable how it controls these things at the same time. The PCM knows what position (command) the climate control switch is in, but yet it over rides that command when it senses a mode to go EV.

To bad I can't get my home computer to work this well!
