What Happened? My Best Tank. First 30+.

I got my FEH in October and since have traveled 3400 miles with 10 fill ups average MPG 27.2. My eleventh fill up last week MPG was 32.2, and the first 150 miles of this tank is 35.9 MPG. So I don't know if I just "learned" to drive it, got over the break in period, warmer weather, or a combination of everything but I am really enjoying this 30+ MPG's

Congrats! I'd say it's likely a combination of factors.

Sweet! I'm hoping for a similar experience soon with ours (November purchase) now that temps are higher. We bought the HCH in October '06 and the mileage went up big time in the summer, only to fall down 20% or so last winter. Temperature is a huge factor, but so is driving technique and it looks like you're figuring it out!

I agree, probably a combo of factors.
Was your last fill-up (or 2) at a different location the the first several? E10 vs non E10 gas can make a difference. I filled up last week at a known no alchol station, and just learned the stations I have been using have most likely been selling E10 w/o labeling it as such; and while I haven't re-filled to do a calucalation, the computer readout is staying around 33 ( I had 34 for several days, then the wife drove it it hit 32!) So I'm hoping for a 4mpg improvement when I fill up later this week(end) early next week.

The tank which ended up at 32.2 MPG was at Wlico, they do have a sign saying "may contain 10% ethanol". I got this tank that is starting out first 150 miles 35.9 (by nav) at Sheets. I didn't see a sign there about E10, anyone know if they do use ethanol?

Re: What Happened? My Best Tank. First 30+.

I found out by reading posts on gasbuddy.com (aka yourcitygasprices.com). I read that the Walmarts, 7-11's, onCue's, and several others were being tested by posters with a test kit and coming back with 5-10% alchol content.
Luckily here, OK, starting July 1 new law starts the requires stations to mark their pumps with stickers stating their content. Just hope it's accurate...

I'd be willing to compare Sheetz to Wallmart and guess they probably do.
You may find non-E10 stations selling for more per gallon tho.
BUT I did a spreadsheet (yea I like those). Calculated the 28mpg I was averaging and the last price of $3.64 = $.13/mi and so far the 100% gas has a computer reading of 33mpg and paid $3.79 = $.12/mi (This station also has a gas card to save 5% on fillups I plan to use if my mpgs do increase!) so overall a tank will save me about $4-5 :D just hope the hand calculation is close to the computer... and wish the wifey would lighten her foot a little!

Are you driving an AWD or FWD?

That is my ride as well. I don't have NAV or Moonroof, but just about everything else.

3400 miles since October? That is pretty low. What is your driving cycle, i.e., how long are your average trips? Has this changed?

My normal cycle is almost all city, about 7 miles each trip. This is one of the toughest cycles for MPG. I'm getting just under 30, though my current tank is at 31.2.

I don't drive it daily I have a government issued Ford F250 (12 MPG:omg: ) I use to go from home to work so I drive mostly on weekends. I would say my aver trip is around 10 miles mixed city/highway.
