Cvt transmission failure help

Tonight my 2006 civic hybrid just had a transmission failure. I was going up a hill and I heard a loud boom/snap and the car just stop moving. I just all power. The car won't move. The engine will just rev when I give it gas. I'm guessing the belt in the cvt snapped.

How much does a used transmission sell for? How much would it cost to rebuild my current transmission. I can do the labor to swap transmissions myself.

The car has 163,000 miles. How common are transmission failures with the civic hybrid?

I see some at http://www.car-part.com for around $1000 or so, with various miles on them.

Just put 2006 civic then on the last page pick the hybrid 1.3L and sort by price or distance to your zip code.

Sorry to hear that it happened with that many miles. I am at 140K and hope it doesn't happen!

I went to the stealer-ship for this one since non of the local shop want to try to mess with CVT. I had no choice. $5 Gs baby! I know but it's my only car. I'm still paying for it since last April of 2014. :(. It was a re manufactured Honda cvt since all cvt are re-manufactured according to Honda. I did get a free rental for a week though from the dealership..ehhh. Good luck and let me know how it goes. I have 194,000+ mile on my car right now.

Guess what? It's at Meineke right now since I need a new Front Cat Converter ($1041.00).

Re: Cvt transmission failure help

I ended up taking my car to this place called GP1 TRANSMISSION in El Monte, ca. They one the one place that I could find that rebuilds cvt transmissions. It was $1800 to rebuild the transmission plus $400 to pull the transmission out and reinstall. So I ended up paying $2200. The good this is that it comes with a unlimited mile 2 year warrantee. This is defanutly one of the drawbacks of having a hybrid.

I hope the new transmission is the last one you need to buy. I don't think its a hybrid thing. I mean, the new Civics (non hybrid) and Accords both have CVT's as an option for better mileage. On your last transmission how often did you change the CVT fluid? I've been doing it every 25 or 30K. The fluid I remove looks pretty clean.

Re: Cvt transmission failure help

I bought the car with 150,000 miles and changed the cvt fluid. It did not look too dirty. The transmission blew up at 160,000 miles.
