Daylight Savings Time Changed correctly? NOT

My time wasn't changed automatically, even though supposely it gets it's time via GPS. Manually changed it and took it off Daylight Savings Mode, otherwise it will probably change in April and set it another hour forward. Anyone elses clock change on it's own correctly?

The clock on my HCH2 also did not change.

Same here. This is poor design. The Nav clock should just pull the time straight out of the GPS signal and not worry about what preprogrammed day is DST. A properly done GPS controlled clock shouldn't even have time controls at all.

Re: Daylight Savings Time Changed correctly? NOT

Sigh,

If I recall the GPS system correctly, it does not use DST, but instead are all set to UTC (Greenwich Mean Time essentially). Your navigation gets its location by measuring the difference in received time from 3 or more different satellites. Since it uses UTC it has no knowledge of DST. Your car is set to change in April/October, if you have that option turned on (Setup->Next->Clock Settings->Something I dont remember). And, from the Nav manual:

The federal government has mandated that, starting in 2007, daylight savings
time will change in March & November instead of the old schedule in April &
October. The new government daylight savings time schedule is subject to
review and possible cancellation in 2008.
At the time your navi DVD was produced, the navi is programmed to
change its clock in April/October. The dates that the navi switches between
standard and daylight savings time are stored in the navi software, and is not
triggered by GPS satellite signals. Therefore your navi clock will change
based on the old daylight savings time schedule (April/October). To minimize
inconvenience caused by the new law, we recommend the following:
1. The Clock adjustment screen in the Setup, set Auto Daylight Saving Time
to Off.
2. When it is time to adjust the clock for daylight savings time, go to the Clock
adjustment screen in the Setup, and simply adjust the navi time using
or by one hour.

Meh. I confused it with the atomic signal from WWVB.

Now that would be nice to have. Oh well.

Correct. The GPS data alone will not give you local time.

Interesting. My 07 set itself to the new time on Sunday morning just fine. Now if I could get my internal clock to adjust to the new time in the morning.......

Really? hmmmm, thats odd, my 07 didnt. Although now that I think about it, I got in the car yesterday and it was an hour behind (10:30, it was 11:30), and I set in to the correct time. But when I got in my car this morning, it was an hour behind again. odd...

I received an e-mail alert from Garmin stating there was a software update for my i5 street pilot. Downloaded the new software and the time automatically corrected for DST on the proper date. Maybe there is a NAV update available for the next time you get serviced by the dealer??? Or maybe there's a way to download a correction from the web then upload it to your NAV system on your own???
