For instance, in my location (Manitoba, Canada) we do have somewhat hot summers (lots of AC use), but we also have cold 5 month long winters where temps at their worst, can go as low as -50 C (-58 F) .
Should we even be entering our milleage's into the DB? In a typical year I hardly accumulate more than 11,000Km (6800 Miles).

You should enter your mileage into the log. It's meant to be realistic, including people who drive in all sorts of conditions and with varying technique. Just use the additional info fields to keep track of what was going on during a particular tank to help potential buyers understand why your vehicle performed the way it did. And as for the status thing, don't let it bug you. If driving for fuel efficiency is your thing, just see how well you can do against the conditions that are thrown at you. In other words, compete against yourself rather than someone who drives nothing but 100mi highway segments in 75*F weather every day.
