Two FE lessons
1. In January the road was icy, so I crept along the highway commute at 45 mph. Even with the studs on and the tires at 30 psi, I got 43 mpg, a significant increase over the normal 38 mpg at 65 mph.
2. On a flat strech of I-5 in Oregon (now without studs and at 40 psi) behind a semi at 60 mph I got 43 mpg. Pulled out and passed him, and at 70 without his lead, I got 34 mpg. A much bigger difference than I expected, although not at all contrary to the "speed kills" gospel.
Learn somethin' every couple days.
