2004 Civic Hybrid Controller ?
 

Bought the car 1 1/2 months ago and the IMA system seemed fine.

IMA and engine light came on with P1433 and P1433 pnd codes. I reset the codes and 20 min. later they came back.

Drove for a while and reset again. so far 3 days later, no codes or lights.

Here are my IMA system symptoms:

1. Battery charges to 75% to 80% consistantly.
2. When accelerating, the green charge light is often on then after a stop the assist seems to work. this will go back and forth intermittently. Battery always seems to have a charge between 75% - 80%.
3. Also the Auto Stop seems to be intermittent with all conditions meet.

My questions are :

1. Has anyone had these symptoms?
2. Is this a controller issue or could it be CVT/IMA sensors?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My CVT is also acting up and has the wrong fluid in it. I have an appointment for Diagnostic and the burnish procedure at Honda tomorrow 2-3-15 as well as the airbag recall.

Your battery is going bad. You are describing forced recalibrations. Now would be a good time for a grid charger.

Replace your CVT fluid every other oil change with Honda CVT fluid.

I hope it was almost free, because between the transmission problems (which the burnishing will bandaid over temporarily, but will not fix) and the battery problems (which the grid charger will let you live with for a while, but won't fix) you are looking at somewhere between $4000 and $6000 in repairs. That is more than the car is worth. That's the big down side to the first generation HCH - it is not an economical car. Sure, you can get 40mpg when all is going well, but the transmission and battery will fail, and they are so expensive to replace it cancels whatever savings there were on fuel. S Keith is right about the transmission fluid changes. Sadly, that stuff is also very expensive. If you want a reliable inexpensive car to drive around the HCH is not it.

If you have a 90 day warranty or return privileges exercise them now. Then buy yourself a good used Corolla or conventional Civic, if you are looking for a cheap reliable car. If, on the other hand, you enjoy dealing with crazy expensive failing car parts, then welcome to the world of the HCH!
