Re: Oil Change for HCH 2006

I had my first oil change on my 2006 HCH at the dealer around 7K miles. The sticker on my windshield actually indicates that my next oil change is going to be around 17K. I agree with those that recommend going with the meter. Frequent oil changes is a scam perpetuated by the likes of greedy dealers and fast lube places. My last Civic had 270K on it and I always changed the oil every 7.5K or so. The engine was still going strong.

I did not notice that until later, and wasn't yet sure that all they said was BS. They did give me a survey to fill out about my service advisor and I'm trying to inform me before I fill it out... The part about the 06 being bolted on top of a 03-05 frame sounded like bs to me, but he was supposed to know better than I...

Ron in SoCal

While driving this Morning I finally hit the 15% mark on the oil indicator, when this
happened the odometer switched automatically to the oil life indicator and I also
received a lit wrench indicator (maint minder). The car is telling me I should have the oil change soon. For reference I hit 15% at 8439 miles, most of the my driving
was with the temps in the 60 to 90's.

had my oil changed at around 7800 miles. The oil change meter was at 15% and I think the manual says something about getting the oil change after the car has reached the 15% mark.

Does anyone have any idea how this Oil Life meter works?

Is it just based on mileage or is there something actually measuring some property of the oil inside your engine?

Anyone know?

I seriously doubt that there's any real time analysis of the oil itself. More likely it monitors some easily measured parameters and gives extra weighting to miles driven (or engine revolutions) while the engine is cold and miles driven at high RPMs. Something like that.
