Roof leaks on seatbelts
Does anyone have a problem with leaks into the post that holds the seatbelts? Mine get wet every time it rains. Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this problem?
Thanks, Seelie |

Sounds like it could be the door seal? H

Re: Roof leaks on seatbelts
Park in the garage. The dealer charged me $500 to do body work and replace the clips over the door. The water runs back and then forward over the door to get to the seat belts.

Re: Roof leaks on seatbelts
I have had this problem too and it cost me a lot to have it fixed. (Can't remember exactly how much - not as much as $500 I think tho). And guess what? A couple of years later it leaks again!!
Wish i had a garage to park in! |
Re: Roof leaks on seatbelts
This is a known issue with Insights especially if any work is done on the "A" pillar.
Here is a quote from someone who had this problem on another forum regarding the wet seatbelt problem: "The dealership did a water leak test and eventually found the culprit. The top "A" pillar trim clip will allow water to enter the body and drain into the "B" pillar and soak the seat belt retractor mechanism. The clip is white and is at the very top of the roof and is the last one before the "A" pillar trim ends at the top before the rear window. My dealership used windshield adhesive/sealer to seal this clip into place. All of the white plastic clips under the "A" pillar trim piece have a thin rubber washer to seal out water, but the ones I got to see were squashed flat and didn't look like they would block out the water. " "the main clips that cause the leaking are the very first ones... right up above each passenger door. Right where the panels connect. If you put silicone eg.. around these clips it will stop the leaking into the seatbelt area... " and "The a pillar clips is the very first one you'll see when you peel back the panel. The other clips are more forward than those and if you notice they are alos on a decline so the water will move further down the car... those are the source problem clips.. You may need to lift them a bit and make sure silicone is completely sealing them. Should fix your issue" People encourage the use of s "paint safe" tool like a wooden spoon or the like when prying off the trim. Re: Roof leaks on seatbelts
It should not be too expensive. Very simple job if you study the details in Eric's thread. All you need is a screw driver and some good sealer to seal the fastening points. H

Re: Roof leaks on seatbelts
We had a similar problem , water on the seat belts ater rain, and running from the rear window seals. eventually we found out it was coming in from the Radio antenna on the roof, and finding it's way down from there. Sometimes on the left side sometimes the right depending if the car was parked on a kerbside slope.
