I always thought that the Lexus hybrids were optimized for performance while the Toyota hybrids were optimized for increased fuel economy. If the dealer does let you exchange a Lexus for a Toyota, you should do it (so long as you can live with less "zip" on the acceleration).

That's generally true with the sedans, but with SUV's it's not a big difference. I drive an '08 Highlander that's '08 EPA rated at 1 mpg better than the RX400h. I will say, though, that overall the '08 Highlander Hybrid Limited with NAV is a nice vehicle than my regular '05 RX 330 with NAV or the 400h. Faster, quieter, smoother, better mpg. But no wood wheel (didn't like it anyway), footwell lights, or tilting side-view mirrors when the car's in reverse.
