March 2011 Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Sales in U.S.A.

It is difficult to find accurate reporting on hybrid and electric vehicle sales. Manufacturers only tout sales when the numbers are positive and otherwise hide the hybrid sales with total sales for the model. Combing around the web looking for this information revealed a lot of mindless flaming of the Chevy Volt sales by self-proclaimed tea-party types criticizing the GM bailout, U.S. healthcare reform law, taxes, global warming, etc. It was quite sad to see such mindless venom.

Anyway, looking around at various sites, I found the following information on March sales in the U.S.:

Prius sales - 18,605 ( up about 50%)

All other Toyota hybrid sales - 2,234 (Camry and Highlander)

Honda Insight sales - 2782

Lexus hybrid sales - 2199 (all models, CT 200h, HS 250 h, GS 450 h, LS 600 h L)

Lincoln MKZ hybrid sales - 615 (record for a month and 20% of total MKZ sales for March 2011)

Chevy Volt sales - 608 (total sales since launch is 1210. There were 782 Volts built in March and total 2011 production has been 1986 units.)

Nissan Leaf sales - 281 (total sales since launch is 471)

I would be interested in hearing from others who might have access to a more comprehensive list and sources of information.

Check over at cleanmpg.com

Usually there are posts in the news section on the main page showing monthly breakdowns for most car models and manufacturers.
