1st oil change at Toyota

FYI, I just got my first ol change at 5000 mile (they sure grow up fast!) When I dropped the car off I asked if they were going to put 0W20 in it and they said they would be putting 5W30 in it. I said on no your not! I popped the hood and showed them the oil cap. I said I want 0W20 or at the least 5W20. My first oil change was free because I have Toyo Gaurd (Those in the south might know about toyo gaurd crap.) When I went to pick up the car they told me they did put 0W20 in it.

So I guess there is no way to look at it and tell what they actually put in there, right?

Why are you guys in the warm climates insisting on the 0W and not the 5W. The only advantage with 0W is in cold starting (as in below 0F) temperatures. Since both are 20 weight their protection when warm is identical.

FL07THC said they would be putting 5W-30, so I believe it's the "30vs. 20" he was miffed about. ;)

What really gets me is: aren't these mechanics getting the same TSB's we're getting? I just posted an attachment [from schmidtj, thx again!] the other day -- see
https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...ad.php?t=11193, Post #13, "EG018-06 - ILSAC GF-4 Engine Oil Recommendation" -- where it clearly states Toyota is going with 0W-20/5W-20 from now on... The bulletin is since March, so what's the deal with the dealers still pushing "-30"?

Because the car comes with 0W20 and 0W20 is synthetic and 5W20 is not.

Got my 1st oil change yesterday and they put in 0w20 as I requested. And I had a free oil change voucher and it didn't cost me anything.

I have used them to service my Highlander and they are honest with me on that one. They have fixed things and not charged me for it too.

Re: 1st oil change at Toyota

At my 5000mi service yesterday at Toyota of Walnut Creek (CA), the service writer first told me my car was delivered with 0-20 synthetic but that my Toyota pre-paid maintenance program only covered conventional oil. Then he "did some research" and determined that my TCH had been delivered with conventional oil. According to him, oil changes with synthetic cost extra on Toyota pre-paid maintenance programs.
