Bluetooth microphone weak
I have a 2007 TCH with bluetooth matching and working with a Treo 700w from Verizon. Basic function is fine except that calls say my voice is very distant. First of all, where is the microphone? Second, is there a volume control? Is anyone else having this problem? Advice?

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
I believe the microphone is at the Rear View Mirror.
I've not had any problems with mine - Treo-700P (Palm vs. Windows) My wife (who - like all wives - is a good critic) tells me that I do sound like I am talking from within an empty room but that she can hear me clearly. I don't know if there is a way to adjust the gain on the microphone or not. |
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
The problem with speakerphone-type systems is that there is a tradeoff to avoid feedback when it comes to noise in the background. If you are in the TCH and you hear a noisy background on the distant end, the system will likely cancel out or lower your volume in order to avoid feedback.
Feedback would occur if, for instance, your wife is speaking to you and her voice is picked up by the TCH microphone and transmitted back to her. So if there is any bit of noise that you can hear coming from the distant end, you may have sound quality issues. |
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
The mic is located in the panel with the reading lights/homelink. I find I kind of have to talk in the direction of that panel to get clarity.
|
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
That's correct — the microphone is in the Homelink panel. You can see the small slots behind which it lurks. I believe that there is a dealer adjustment that can be made to the microphone's sensitivity. You might want to try that possibility.

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
Most people I call complain of me being low, and I typically have a loud voice. I also fine the Voice Recognition is far worse than my old TL, the Camry mixes up words all the time. Acrua had the bluetooth thing better implememented.

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
If you have the Nav package, there are adjustments available for both "send" volume and "receive" volume on one of the settings screens. [I don't know about the non-Nav package.]

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
The BT voice recognition software does a lousy job picking up numerals via "Dial by Number" command. But, the mic could explain this issue... I wish there were more things we could adjust ourselves instead of going to the stealership for petty adjustments here and there. BTW, I don't have Nav.

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
I have the same problem in my Toyota RAV4 with DVD navigation. The microphone is also near the homelink buttons and it doesn't work as it should. I hear everybody very clearly but nobody hears me well. If I want someone to hear me I have to shout, it's really annoying and this bluetooth handsfree is useless!!! Have You found any solution to this problem? I was told in Toyota ASO that there is no regulation for microphone, but I am not sure if they know what they are saying.

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
My RX 330 had a similar setup to my Camry, and everyone on the other end has been impressed with the quality of the call using the handsfree in the Camry.
|
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
I believe that I read somewhere that there had been some Camrys made without the microphone being connected. Perhaps it's worth having the dealer check out this possibility. Could it be that the phone's own microphone is picking up a faint signal on its own, and that's all that's getting through — hence the very low volume? There is also a microphone sensitivity adjustment that the dealer can make.

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
My problem isnt a week voice from me but I get complaints that my vioce breaks up and they cant understand me.I shut my car off and use my motorola h700 headset and the problem is gone.I have sprint and a new katana phone.Sprint checked my phone and the over the last couple weeks checked the towers and say they have no problems.
I called toyota and they sent me to my dealer who cant find a problem.I believe i have eleminated the phone, and sprint as it works fine with my motorola h700 headset.Has to be a problem with the toyota bluetooth or maybe the mike. anyone else with this problem? |
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
The Camry's Bluetooth is almost certainly the problem...
I don't understand why Toyota had to go and make their bluetooth so silly. Almost every other car company simply uses Bluetooth to connect to the phone directly, making the phone's address book, commands, etc, available THROUGH THE PHONE. The car simply acts as a sort of gateway... But not Toyota... They have decided that you must TRANSFER your phone's address book from your phone, to the car's memory - a real drag if you don't have NAV, as it will only hold 20 numbers!! The reception is lousy on many phones (my a900 won't even turn ON - it has to be on before I start the car or I'm SOL). If anyone at Toyota is reading this - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come up with some sort of firmware or adjustment that will make Camry's just like any other bluetooth car!! PLEASE!! |
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
I had the same problems with the a 900,i had to open the window and hold it outside to turn on.I went to sprint and they replaced it with the katana.
I am having problems with the bluetooth on the car, people tell me i am breaking up bad.I switch to the phone from the car bluetooth and the problem is gone.Im taking it to the dealer today to have it checked out.I dont hear of this problem from others so i may have a defective bluetooth system.time will tell |
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
If you go to this link https://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/...ight=bluetooth you will find the methods for getting into the bluetooth menu and some discussion about it. I bumped my microphone sensitivity up 1 and it helped a lot.

This is ONLY for people with NAV. As I recall we are STILL waiting on someone to post how to do it for us non- nav peeps.
Have the Prius methods been tried? |

I am sure that if the original post indicated one way or the other that I would know what glevine needs, or would refrain from comment. I sent him/her the best I could come up with.

My post was not to knock what you posted it was just to let people with non nav systems know not to wade through 3 pages of posts to find nothing. ;)
I tried the Prius method for getting into Diagnostic Mode and it worked on my Camry. Someone without Nav, please try this: 1) Get in, shut drivers door 2) Start car 3) While holding down the INFO button, move the headlight switch from OFF to the next position and back to OFF 3 times. This should get you into a maintenance screen and allow you to press MENU (softkey on the screen) to get to the Bluetooth settings. Please let us know if this works! Regards, Larry |

Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
OK, back to the drawing board. In the Prius (I had an '05 for two years), all models have a display whether or not they have NAV. That's not the case with the Camry, or Highlander for that matter.

Setting Bluetooth sound level on 2007 Camry Hybrid w/ Navigation In my '07 Camry Hybrid w/ Nav, my Motorola V3 Razr paired fine, and I could hear people fine when using handsfree, but people I called were always asking me to speak up. I couldn’t find a microphone sensitivity control in the user menus. I called Toyota service and they told me how to bring up the diagnostic screen (a function reserved for the service technicians). There I was able to adjust the Bluetooth "send voice level". Following are the instructions: -Turn on car power (doesn’t need to be started) -Press Map button (hit I Agree first if needed) -Press Silver “Disp” button (bottom right side of display – physical buttong) -A kind of divided screen appears with “Display” on top and contrast/brightness on bottom. While this screen is displayed, do the following very fast: -Alternately touch the screen under the Display line, then above the Contrast line. Keep doing that over and over until the diagnostic screen appears. If it doesn’t work, keep trying. It took me a few tries. Touch the top, then the bottom, then the top then the bottom, all very quickly. Using two fingers might be too quick, as that didn’t work for me. I used my pointer finger. There is no icon, you just have to stay under the top line and above the bottom line. The System Check Mode screen appears -Touch Menu in upper right -Touch Bluetooth Tel Check -Touch Hands Free Volume Quality Set -Change the “Send Voice Level to a higher number (press the up arrow next to it). -Get back to the main menu -Turn the car power off (there’s no other way that I see to get out of the Diagnostic screen). The “Send Voice Level” on my ’07 Camry was set at zero. I changed it to 3 (5 is max). I then called my voicemail using handsfree, left a test message, played it back, and my voice was much louder. I haven’t tested it on the road yet. -Tom Walker, Littleton, Colorado |
Re: Bluetooth microphone weak
You can exit this menu by holding down the physical "display" button for about 5 seconds. This will "reboot" the nav system, bringing you back to the "I agree" page.
