A am using a Moto Q and the signal strength updates itself automatically.

I just double checked, my LG VX8700 displays and updates the signal strength in real-time. I have the NAV.

Thanks to you and anyone else who takes the time to check and report back! I really do think it's the phone itself, because my Motorola V551 updated just fine. (I do not have NAV.)

Well, it seems the answer, from Sony Ericsson, is that their phones don't update past the initial pairing:

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

Sony Ericsson’s phones don’t have that option in the phone. It will not be possible to get a signal update besides when first connected.


This really is a poor design considering my old Motorola provided updates. I'm otherwise thrilled with the phone, though.

Anyway, thanks to all who participated here!

Just an information post - I just got the Samsung Instinct a few weeks ago. During a phone call on the way home today, I noticed the signal strength indicator updated in real time.

i have original iphone and will check this afternoon. I have never thought to watch for it updating.
