Bob,

How long have you been back to the dark side?

My 'disposable' e-mail account still gets notices when someone posts to one of my earlier threads. Most of the time, I just ignore them but if there is some technical confusion, I'll post and update or correction. But the main problem, the destroyed, mileage database remains broken.

There are distinct differences between the three Prius models and changes coming in the other hybrid models. Without a database that tracks these different models, then our 2003 Prius is identical to our 2010 Prius. But the current owners don't understand:

You'll find I'm active in forums that understand there are differences.

Bob,

I understand the problem. I just come on this site in the Camry forum and pretty much ignore the rest of the site. I just happened to see your name and wanted to say hi and wish you and the wife well. Are you still cruising the hills around Huntsville?

Thank you for asking.

My wife has good days and bad but lately they've been tending good . . . which makes me happy.

The hills are still there but mostly I'm home, work, and shop . . . and walking the dogs.

I suspect the major cost components of the Prius "transaxle" (CVT/PSD) would be the two MG's. Were it me I might just purchase and replace the planetary gearset, DIY, as the MG's are unlikely to have yet reached failure point.

In the Gen1 Prius a humming transaxle was usually found to have shorted turns in one of the MGs.

As was said earlier, There have been very few failures in Gen2 transaxles to date. Did owner of the Gen2 with a "bad" transaxle ever refresh the ATF? I have yet to hear of any Prius transaxle failure where the owner did periodic ATF refreshes.
