Used Prius prices

Question for you all; I have been checking out the used market. As we all know, the Prius has been in demand for sometime, so the values have held strongly. Thus, conventional wisdom has been to just buy new. I am just curious to hear at what price you guys think a used Prius starts to make sense? Say for a 2004 with 30k miles; what would be an attractive price?

Separately, what price would be good for a low mileage 2002? I am just wanting to hear some opinions.

I'm in Seattle, a pretty strong Prius market.

Thanks!

Hi,

I bought a 2005 "Certified Used" silver Prius with ~7,500 miles on it for a little over $23K. It doesn't have any whistles and bells, just the in-dash CD player. Since there were only 2 on the lot (both used) and a 4 month waiting list, I wasn't complaining;). I live near Sacramento, CA.

I would recommend looking at Ebay completed listings. Last October, I picked up an 03 Prius with 49,300 miles for $17,300. I had been using NADA blue book value to figure out price ranges for the various used Prii.

As a general rule, buying from a dealer is less risky than buying from an individual. But in all things, let the buyer beware.

Good information.

I have found that both Blue Book and NADA seems to be thrown out the window on the Prius at the moment. I found a '04 for $20k, but of course MSRP on a base new one is $22k (which I'll likely not find) plus the wait, etc. These are a hard thing to value; I am just trying to decide the price at which a good used one makes sense...

About a week ago I drove by the dealership that sold us our hybrids and they had an '04 with 47K miles on it listed at $25,898. I don't know what package it was, though. A sales guy there said that the waiting list for new Prii was approximately 3 months long. That's just nuts. My '05 Pkg #6 we got *new* for $26,400 with 8 miles on it and didn't have to wait on a list.

Check Kelly blue book for prices or edmunds.com

The other guy did pretty good on the 05, I paid 25k for mine in 04' "new" its obvious they do hold thier value.

An 02' with 34k goes for around 19.5k here in Fla.

04' -06' are the almost the same cost as new $$$ (demand)

The cheapest Ive seen a 97' - 03' is 17k on www.autotrader.com

look at any distance and you'll get the prices

When I was getting my 06 for $25k across the street @ Carmax they had a 05 with 14k mi for $24.9k. Hard to believe the are asking the new price.

I'd like to heae from anyone that has traded-in a Prius. What did you get for your 200x with xxk miles

I bought my '02 from my local BMW mini dealer last June. It was in mint condition with only 7,200 miles on it and I stole it from them for $16,200. It has the multi CD changer and dual airbags and alarm system. Just hit 17,200 miles on it the other day.

Here, if I have managed to attach it, is my record of 2001-2003 Prius sales on ebay to date.

DAS

If you look at the file and are asked if you want to update links, please select "no". I have no idea what will happen.

Do you have the dates of each sale too?

The reason I ask is over time, it looks like Prii prices have 'stiffened' up a bit. The 01/02s are still pretty reasonable but 03s look to be getting pricy. As for the 04-06, they have really held their value.
