The 2011 Chevrolet Volt

Since the Volt concept debuted, there has been much
speculation as to what, if anything, we would see from Chevrolet with the Volt
as far as a production model.  At first,
many were skeptical that the unique vehicle would ever see the showroom, but
with rising fuel prices and a now-booming market based around alternative
powered vehicles, the electric Volt isn’t that unusual.  However, the sharp, sporty angles of the Volt
Concept had many people excited, as the current super-efficient hybrid models
like the Toyota Prius obviously paid for more attention to economy than to
style.

When unapproved photographs of the production Volt leaked a
while back, the reception was not a friendly one as the poor quality photos
caused the Volt to appear to be yet another coconut on wheels.  The anticipation of the full view after quite
a bit of teasing by GM was disturbed a bit by these photos, so General Motors
was quick (and wise) to officially release the 2011 Chevrolet Volt as part of
their 100th birthday celebration.

In the flash, the Volt looks much better than those previous
photographs, with a more typical sedan layout, but without compromising
aerodynamics.  While there is still a
smooth line from front to rear, the Volt has more of the 4-door coupe look,
giving it a sportier feel than the current popular hybrid models, but
unfortunately it is not as sporty as some hoped.  However, the production Volt will surely be a
great entry into the market and this could be the car that begins to change the
face of the American automotive industry.
