Mods: Tires 48 psi, COUNTDown diesel fuel treatment added to each full tank. MPG figures automatically adjusted from Imperial to US gallons by greenhybrid. First diesel I have owned, puchased due to house move which takes me from a 20 minute cycle ride to work - to a 1.5 hour drive. Wanted a used Insight but rarity in the UK prevented me from finding a good example. Many EU direct injection diesels at least match FE of a Civic hybrid/Prius, without the complication although unfortunately not as clean. Used Civic CTDi prefered in terms of VFM/aesthetics/FE/comfort. Still might get an Insight if the right one comes along, otherwise awaiting the hybrid diesels! This is, at the moment mainly a commuter car. We take the girlfriends Toyota Yaris at the weekend (she has a 2 mile drive to work) unless it's hot and we need air con (rare). Daily journey is split 50/50 between fast moving dual carriageway (50-60mph) and twisty back roads (30-50mph) passing through 2 small towns and numerous villages. Conservative driving at all times. Place of work is on city outskirts, route avoids stop/go traffic queues. Total journey 57 miles. Never wanted to spend this long sitting in a car per day, adding to traffic volume and pollution, let alone wasting my time, but hopefully it is only for the short term. Tip; Maximize FE by driving less, cut those short and unecessary journeys - walk, cycle, get some excercise! :o)
