Default Rear Battery Filter

Does anyone know of a good source for the rear battery a/c filter other than the dealer? I just hit 10,000 miles on the '05 and need to inspect mine - I'd like to have the part on hand if it needs to be changed.

Also, since I haven't messed with it yet, anyone have the procedure for changing it?

Thanks.

Ray

I could not find a source for this other than the dealer.

FYI
Ford part #FP-51 (part-# is in the manual). Price was $30, They did not stock the filter and needed to order it (2-3 days)

I was just looking in the manual last night. I think it explains how to do it there.

It's super easy, just pop the plastic cover off, and it's right there. When you see it you're gonna think $30?????!!!!!! . . . for this???

Unless it's made of some hi-tech material that is actually more than what it looks/feels like, the price is pretty outrageous. I assume it's because there is probably so little demand for it that it actually costs quite a bit (per piece) to manufacture/distribute. That would explain why aftermarket companies may not be offering any.

Thanks Randy. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and pick up a couple at the dealer. At least it is easy to inspect and if the one that is in there looks good I'll put it back in.

I'd like to have a new one to compare it to anyway.

Thanks again....

Some folks on the Yahoo! group found it at oehq.com for $16.03. It says "Pollen Air Filter" like the Cabin Air Filter which they also have, but the Motorcraft part number (FP51) seems to match.

Exclamation Re: Rear Battery Filter/Success!

just bought one at oehq.com

based in st. louis.

easy menu to order parts.

motorcraft # for the little air filter is FP-51. Cost is 16.03
while you're at it you ought to get your engine air filter, too.
motorcraft # for the engine filter is FA-1772. Cost is 27.74
They ship UPS.

very easy to change the little filter, it's about the size of a canadian pack of cigarettes, and costs close to same.
just pop off the outer cover, squeeze gently one of the tabs holding the inner cover on, take that away and you then can slide out the little (very dirty) filter.

as you can see by a previous post dealer charges double, you'll have to wait a couple days no matter what.

If you like K&N products, and want a rear filter that you can wash & reuse... then have I got a tip for you.

K&N does not "officially" make filters for the FEH.
However, they do have equivalents that do fit.

For the rear battery compartment, order Part Number YA-1602-U.

This is really an engine intake filter for a Yamaha Motorcycle.

It is however, close to the same size as the battery air filter, ( a bit larger but the rubber border is easily trimmed with a knife ) and about 10x more durable.

Cost is $40 ( free shipping ) and it will out-last the vehicle.
If you want this to be the last filter you will ever buy, then go for it.

I looked on their site and found what I needed. Price is as stated above. Shipping was $6 or so for the filter. Thought I could save a few $$ by getting 4 at a time.....wrong. Total for 4 filters would have be close to $88. Dealer near me has a couple on the shelf for $26 each. I'll get them locally for $4 difference.

Purolator has a battery filter listed on their site - C25571.

Advance Auto carries Purolator stuff so I may check them this afternoon since they just bought up a local chain of parts stores and are finally in the Boston area. They are a little better than AutoZone who now seems to be all about dress-up parts. Very few name brand filters anymore - just some Chinese made line available "exlusively" at A.Z. Big deal.
