Re: Send a message to site owner
Let's find a more 'member friendly' site and relocate there.
Please reply here with site suggestions (I'd prefer one that isn't fixated on hypermiling as I'm more interested in general discussions rather than trying to figure out how to achieve >50MPG and 800 mile tanks)

Re: Send a message to site owner
Sure, but what site did was to allow sticky forum posts to be used for spam.
Most aren't bothered by banner ads, but I think it's safe to say that most will leave this forum as a result of the sleazy nature of the ads posted here.
I'm probably leaving, but wanted to participate in this thread.
Hopefully, admins and moderators will pass on the displeasure to the owners in the hope that they might reconsider.

Yeah I see what you mean. I hadn't run across one of those yet. If I would have seen one of those first I probably would have deleted it as spam. Since GeorgiaHybrid is also a mod I assume he already tried to do so and was rebuffed, thus his signing off here?

Re: Send a message to site owner
I usually brows the forum's "new posts" and would not encounter the sticky ads at all or just ignore it. I tried to help out by moving them all in market place but the site owners(who pays for the site) got a sponsor to support the site by putting ads (albeit not often) on the subforums as a sticky. It is beyond my control at this point.
FWIW, it is not spam, it is a legit vendor/sponsor of the site to keep it going-for free.

Re: Send a message to site owner
FWIW, I am an admin at another forum. Not sure of the economics here, but it costs about $100 a month to keep the site online (we have a dedicated server due to our large database). With out a dedicated server a month, it would be about $10-20/month.
We restrict googleadsense ads to non-registered members and only show one or two smallish one per page. Registered members who log in NEVER see an ad.
We get around $50-60/month in revenue (so if we didn't have the dedicated server, we'd be profitable from the adsense revenues).
I assume the economics aren't all that much different here.
As such, one has to question the wisdom (or lack thereof) of management to alienate the only asset that the site has...it's visitors.
Not sure of greenhybrids traffic, but clearly the sticky ad has, and will continue to, drive away traffic...permanently!
