Crap Journalism & Prius Mileage
Prius Owners Question Mileage Claims
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news0...idwatch01.html
But for Sandra C. of Bloomington, Indiana, the figures just don't add up. In fact, she says she was told the onboard computer in her car is programmed to provide high mileage numbers that may exceed the miles per gallon the car actually achieves...
“The computer did say 46 miles per gallon,” Sandra wrote. “I asked them why it is that when I divide the miles from fill-up to fill-up by the gallons I put in, I get 34 or 33 miles a gallon?”...
When Sandra asked why the computer spit out the higher inaccurate, number the service manager told her, “That is a number Toyota has programmed into the car which accounts for wind resistance and other factors,” she said.

Re: Crap Journalism & Prius Mileage
Interesting that I get a higher MPG rating on some tanks than the display. If I do get less than the display shows it has only been from 1 to 4 MPG.
After reading the article I am convinced that this woman is a lobbyist for the major oil companies!!!
Bunch of poppycock!!!
I have actually tried to get poor gas mileage in my Prius and it is very difficult.

I'd get the computer checked then. Geez!
When the display reads 47.3, I'm usually getting 45 when I do the calculations by hand. Big deal. No one ever said that the computer estimate was done by divination!

It would not surprize me at all if the Toyota dealership told some whoppers. My Honda salesman was so bad he was laughable enough to be the subject of his own thread. It is floating around here somewhere. He didn't know <censored> from shineola.

Re: Crap Journalism & Prius Mileage
One of the most dastardly pieces of incoherent hybrid-hate was perpetrated by Rush Limbaugh yesterday (European readers: he's a famous right-wing radio talk-show host with an audience of 20 million.) It was so far over-the-top that I could hardly believe my ears as he did a 25 minute anti-hybrid rant.
Here's his "talking points":
-- Nobody in America *really* wants a hybrid. The popularity of hybrids is a Left Wing piece of science fiction. (Sure. That's why you have to wait 30 days for a HCH and 60 days for a Prius.)
-- Hybrid cars carry a $10,000 premium. (Actually, that figure is closer to $5k.)
-- Hybrid fans *really* want to sell our country out to the United Nations. (Hmmm... I just thought we wanted quiet, efficient cars that got good gas mileage.)
-- Americans are granted the Divine Right by God Himself to have 1st pick at the world's resources. We have the right (and duty) to get 8 mpg and pollute as much as we want. (Yeah... but how is that going to help the young people 80 years from now who will have to breathe filth?)
-- He summed his tirade by declaring that anyone who buys a hybrid not only hates America, but also has rejected God. (Great... Rush Limbaugh the Theologian. I own a HCH but still seem to attend Church on a regular basis! And if the US has faults, I still like living here.)
His last part was great -- implying that we had a moral duty as Americans and Christians to reject hybrid technology (and anything else that promotes conservation of non-renewable resources).
What a horses' rear-end.

Yup. Normaly I tend to agree what some of the stuff he says, but I think his lack of medication has made him a little surley as of late.
I think the poll about political leanings of greenhybrid members show that there is no bias towards or against hybrids based on polical leanings.
I think I'll bump that poll back up so new members can contribute to it for a better sample.

I concurr with tbaleno - this reflects on Rush alone and not any groups he is imploring to take action.
I've said in the past that hybrids should be looked on by everyone regardless of their politics.
